I (the author) have explained that the vows made by those who claim that time changes also have the fault of hindering their own inferences, and are therefore not feasible. Why? Because their vows are also inferring things that existed before, so whatever exists will not change from the future to the present, because the change to the present is excluded, so those who claim that time changes will hinder their own inferences. The so-called claim of time change refers to those who claim that things change from the future to the present, and from the present to the past. This answers the claims that things, nature, state, and otherness change. That is to say, in the case of showing that the vows of those who claim that things exist and those who claim that time changes are unreasonable, this answers the claims that things change, nature changes, state changes, and otherness changes. Among them, the one who claims that things change is the master of the Sarvastivada school, the venerable Dharmatrāta. He said, for example, the nature of gold only transforms into things of shapes such as bracelets and armlets, but the nature of gold does not change, similarly, the nature of all dharmas only transforms into things of shapes such as long and short, but the nature of dharmas does not change. To this, the Sautrāntika teacher said that he should be placed in the camp of the Samkhya school, but this is not an answer to him, because the venerable Dharmatrāta said that the Sautrāntika teacher should also be placed in the camp of those who claim non-existence. Here, the Madhyamika school should answer him in another way, in the ultimate truth, the past and the future are not existing things, because they are real things, just like the present. Therefore, Dharmatrāta infers that things are real things, if the past and the future are real things like the present, then these two will also become the present, so the past

I replied that in order to eliminate the future, making such a proposition is flawed because the nature of the subject is excluded, so it is not valid. The one who says that the self-characteristic changes is the Vaibhashika master, the venerable Goshaka. He says, for example, if a man has three wives, although he particularly loves one, it is not that he has no attachment to the other two. The characteristic of particularly loving and not loving changes, but the actual substance of the man himself does not change. Similarly, when dharmas exist in the three times, whatever is future, when it possesses the characteristic of the future itself, the present and the past are not without its characteristic, it is only the characteristic of possessing and not possessing that changes, but the actual substance of the dharma itself does not change. To this, the Sutrantikas say, if that is the case, the three times will be mixed up. This does not refute him, because the venerable Goshaka says, if all three times exist as the nature of manifestation, then they would also be mixed up, but in the time of the characteristic of the future, the future is predominant with the nature of manifestation, while the present and the past are merely the nature of potential, and mere potential does not mix with manifestation. Here, the Madhyamikas should answer him in another way: ultimately, the future is not the nature of self-characteristic, because it is the nature of the self-characteristic of the future. For example, like the nature of the self-characteristic of the present. Therefore, Goshaka infers that things possess self-characteristics, and if the past and the future have self-characteristics like the present, then those two would also become the present. In order to eliminate the past and the future, making such a proposition is still flawed because the nature of the subject is excluded, so it is not valid. The one who says that the state changes is the Vaibhashika master, the venerable Vasumitra. He says, for example, for a calculation of position, placing one is called one, and after that, placing other states of calculation of positions such as ten, hundred, and thousand, it becomes other states such as thousand.
