Furthermore, how does arising wish to generate its own nature? Does it generate through what is already arisen or through what is not yet arisen? If it is said that what arises generates its own nature, then does that arising generate itself through being already arisen or through not yet being arisen? Thus, it shows two possibilities. "What will happen with that?" This is a question. In order to show the latter possibility for the moment, if it is said to be through what is not yet arisen, then it is said: "How does this arising, through what is not yet arisen, generate its own nature?" In order to show its validity, arising does not generate its own nature through what is not yet arisen, because it does not exist, so it is like before. This is what is meant. These are, respectively, the subject, the property to be proven, the proving property, and the example, to be applied in order. For example, just as a thing that has not arisen before does not generate its own nature because it does not exist, similarly, an arising that has not arisen also does not generate its own nature because it does not exist. In order to show the very first possibility, if it is said to be through what is already arisen, then it is said: "If it generates through what is already arisen, what is there to generate if it is already arisen?" Because the act of arising from what is already arisen becomes meaningless. This is what is meant. Therefore, if analyzed in that way, it is impossible for arising to generate its own nature, so it inevitably leads to the fault of infinite regress. This is the conclusion and the result of the valid cognition. If arising does not generate its own nature through what is not yet arisen, and if it relies on another arising, then the fault of infinite regress cannot be avoided. This shows for the moment that arising does not generate its own nature. Here, if the opponents say, "Since arising neither generates its own nature, nor can avoid the fault of infinite regress by relying on another arising, then arising is neither generated by itself nor by another, but has become unconditioned, therefore it is a characteristic of the unconditioned," in order to remove that previous view from their minds, the commentary here is that even if arising and so forth are unconditioned, because they are unconditioned,
