As it is said, because the simultaneously arising cause has the power to generate even the object that is being generated, therefore, is it that the root arising or the arising of arising that is being generated, because it has not arisen, like an object that has not arisen before, cannot generate the arising of arising or the root arising? Or, is it uncertain whether the root arising or the arising of arising that is being generated can generate the arising of arising or the root arising because it is a simultaneously arising cause? Or, is it that the root arising or the arising of arising that is being generated, because it is being generated, like an object that wants to arise, cannot generate the arising of arising or the root arising? Or, is it uncertain whether the root arising or the arising of arising that is being generated can generate the arising of arising or the root arising because it is a simultaneously arising cause? Therefore, your Madhyamika's reason, "because it has not arisen, or because it is arising," is uncertain in meaning, so it is not valid, they say. In order to answer what they say, here the commentator himself explains, the simultaneously arising ones have also been refuted when refuting the simultaneous arising of desire and attachment, and the efficient cause has also been refuted, therefore, that proof cannot show uncertainty, so it is impossible to avoid the fault of infinite regress, so it is said. The simultaneously arising causes have also been refuted earlier when examining desire and attachment, with "Desire and attachment should not arise simultaneously, thus desire and attachment would become mutually independent," and if the efficient cause is the cause of other things that are being generated but have not arisen themselves, then, again, if here the root arising or the arising of arising that is being generated is the efficient cause, then it will also become uncertain, the efficient cause itself has already been refuted before, therefore, your proof cannot show that my reason is uncertain, because one nature cannot generate another nature, if they have other natures, then it will become the fault of infinite regress.

As previously stated, you cannot refute it, it remains. Therefore, in order to avoid others falling into the fallacy of endlessness, I said the following: Just as a lamp illuminates itself and others, so too does birth generate both itself and the things of others. Therefore, it will not fall into the fallacy of endlessness. This is to prove that other schools will not fall into the fallacy of endlessness. They say, just as a lamp illuminates its own essence and also illuminates other things such as vases and blankets, so too does birth generate its own essence and also generate other things such as vases and blankets, therefore, it is both a characteristic of compounded things and will not fall into the fallacy of endlessness. Here, for what is easy to understand and has already been explained, it will not be explained further, for fear of too many words, and because the meaning is well-known and the meaning has already been explained, effort is futile. This is to say that the commentator himself states the reason for not explaining the previously stated verse. As a response to what the previous speakers said, the commentator himself says that even if there are many words, it should be explained here by reasoning, and so on. Birth acts in the realm of the essence of oneself and others, because it is its very nature. For example, just as a lamp is the nature of light, therefore it illuminates the essence of oneself and others. The commentator himself extracts from the words spoken by others and puts forward the previous view. They also combine the subject, the dharma to be proven, the dharma of proof, and the example in order. For example, just as a lamp is the nature of light, therefore it illuminates the essence of oneself and others, so too is birth the nature of generation, therefore it generates the essence of oneself and others. The explanation for this is: In the ultimate sense, birth is only the nature of generation.

Because the very nature of the reason to be established, just like what is to be established, is said to be unestablished; and because it is a part of the proposition, for example, "sound is impermanent because sound is sound," like this is unreasonable. The commentator says that because the reason stated earlier is unestablished just like what is to be established, and because it is a part of the proposition, this is a statement refuting "unestablished." Furthermore, if it is said to this explanation that, ultimately, a lamp illuminates in order to dispel the darkness that obstructs the perception of self and other natures, then, if we examine it according to the wishes of the opponent, it is impossible for it to be established as stated. How is it impossible? Therefore, it is said: "Where the lamp and what are together, there is no darkness. What does the lamp illuminate? It illuminates nothing." The meaning of this statement is that if it is said that the lamp illuminates, it illuminates in order to dispel the darkness that obstructs the perception of self and other natures, then the lamp itself has no darkness, and wherever the lamp is, there is no darkness, so what does the lamp illuminate? It illuminates nothing. Thus, here, the dharma to be established, the lamp itself is not illumination, and the dharma that establishes, the lamp itself has no darkness for self and other natures, thus showing the dharma to be established and the dharma that establishes. Therefore, here it can be inferred that, ultimately, the lamp does not illuminate self and other natures, because there is no darkness, like the appearance of the sun's rays being bright and beautiful. These are respectively the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma that establishes, and the example, corresponding in order. For example, the appearance of the sun's rays being bright and beautiful, because there is no darkness, so the lamp
