Their refutations should also be understood as much as possible. Eleventh chapter. By generally refuting arising from others, this not only refutes other schools, but also one's own school. Here, the Abhidharma masters say: If the so-called "other" refers to emptiness of the power of the fruit, then the meaning of the argument is not established. If it refers to non-emptiness of the power of the fruit, then the example will not possess the property to be proven. They say this. Here, the Madhyamaka argument is the so-called "other," and the examples are like a pot and horns, etc. To this, the Shravaka Vaibhashikas say: The meaning of the argument is not established, and the example does not possess the property to be proven. This is being shown. Among them, the so-called "Abhidharma masters" refers to the established tenets from the schools, which are called Abhidharma. Those are the Abhidharma masters, and they are also Shravaka Vaibhashikas. The so-called "say" refers to those Shravaka Vaibhashikas saying: The Madhyamaka argument is the so-called "other," and the examples are like a pot and horns, etc. To this, the meaning of the argument is not established, and the example does not possess the property to be proven. The so-called "other" refers to the fact that previously, in the ultimate truth, the internal sense bases, etc., do not arise from other conditions outside of them, because they are "other," like a pot. And, in the ultimate truth, the other that one wants to express, that is, the internal sense bases such as the eye, are definitely not the conditions that accomplish them, because they are "other," like horns, etc. In this way, two connected statements are made, therefore, the sense bases, etc., do not arise from other conditions, and the other conditions are not the conditions of the sense bases, etc. What is shown as the argument is the so-called "other." Those Shravaka Vaibhashikas seek the power of the fruit in the conditions in this way, they say: One is the action of projecting, and the second is completely perfecting. It is said that, therefore, the action of increasing causes the power of the eye, etc., to increase in a vague state.

Furthermore, the action of accomplishing completeness makes the eyes, etc., complete and prevents the senses from being deficient. Thus, if we consider the potential of the aggregates residing in the sprout stage, then the sprout, etc., are otherness. If we consider the sprout, etc., then the potential of the aggregates is also otherness. Therefore, that is the otherness that is not empty of the potential of the fruit. That which is not like that, empty of the potential of the aggregates, for example, a vase and threads, etc., like the aggregates having no potential, if we consider the aggregates, then the vase and threads, etc., are otherness. If we consider the vase and threads, etc., then the aggregates are also otherness. Therefore, that is the otherness that is empty of the potential of the fruit. Because it is said like that, therefore here, the Śrāvakabhāṣikas say: The reason of the Madhyamikas, "otherness," is it the otherness that is empty of the potential of the fruit? Or is it the otherness that is not empty of that? Thus, they make two kinds of distinctions. If it is said to be the emptiness of the potential of the fruit, then it is said: The reason of the Madhyamikas, "otherness," if it is said to be the otherness that is empty of the potential of the aggregates, such as the eyes, etc., for example, another vase and threads, etc., is your reason, Madhyamikas, then it is accepted as such. If the otherness of the potential of the empty fruit, for example, another vase and threads, etc., is said to be the reason, what fault is there? Therefore, it is said: The meaning of the reason is not established. The aggregates are not produced from the otherness that is empty of the potential of the causal fruit; and the conditions are also the otherness that is empty of the potential of the fruit, so they do not become conditions. Because the reason is also the otherness that is empty of the potential of the fruit in that established thesis. Thus, if the special reason of otherness is stated, then if the meaning of the reason is accomplished, because the reason is otherness in those two, thus the otherness is generally stated. Thus, therefore, the aggregates are the otherness of the potential of the causal fruit.

Although there is no arising from that (place), others that are not empty due to the power of the fruit will arise, and the conditions are also empty due to the power of the fruit, others are not conditions, but others that are not empty due to the power of the fruit are conditions, therefore, the meaning of the reason for proving that there is no arising and is not a condition is confused, therefore it is unestablished. For example, it is like saying, "Sound is permanent because it is seen by the eye, like form." If it is said that it is for non-emptiness, then this is called the other reason of the Madhyamikas. If it is said that if the fruit, such as the eyes, that is, the other that is not empty by the power of the sense bases, such as the shimmering ones, is stated as your Madhyamika's reason, then this is an assumption. If the other that is not empty by the power of the fruit, such as the shimmering ones, is stated as the reason itself, then what is the fault? Therefore, it is said that "the example will become devoid of the property of proof." The sense bases do not arise from the condition, that is, others that are not empty by the power of the fruit, and the conditions are also not empty by the power of the fruit, therefore, for these two aspects of proving that others are not conditions, if the example is taken from the other that has the property of proof that is not empty by the power of the fruit, then the example will become possessed of the property of proof, then for these two aspects, the example is like a pot and grain, etc. Therefore, the example is taken from the pot and grain, etc., which are empty of the power of the fruit, such as the eyes, etc. Thus, therefore, the fruit, that is, the other that is not empty by the power of the sense bases, is not an example of arising from the other conditions, such as the shimmering ones, the pot is the other that is empty of the power of the fruit, this (example) is also not possessed of the property of proof, that is, the power of the fruit's sense bases is not empty. And the condition, that is, the other that is not empty by the power of the fruit, such as the shimmering ones, is not an example of a condition, the grain, etc., is the other that is empty of the power of the fruit, this (example) is also not possessed of the property of proof, that is, the other that is not empty by the power of the fruit, such as the shimmering ones, therefore, since the example and the reason do not agree, the example is not possessed of the property of proof.
