It is declared: When something is generally stated and a specific aspect is emphasized, the subject and its qualities can be established. Therefore, since it is a part of the proposition, for example, 'Sound is permanent because it is sound,' would this become an invalid reason? Or, 'The sound of poetry is impermanent because it is sound, like the sound of a large drum.' Since one sees that a part of the proposition itself becomes the reason, and it is uncertain which of the two it is, your reason is invalid. Apart from the Vaisheshikas, those who explicitly assert that the production of substances with parts, such as earth, water, fire, and wind, arises gradually from atoms alone, starting with two minute particles, can be refuted by saying, 'Because it is other.' If the meaning of the reason is understood as a quality, then it is the very meaning of self-unestablished. If it is understood as a meaning different from that, then it will become contradictory to what is commonly known. Therefore, by the statement 'The reason for explanation itself is other,' it is shown that the Vaisheshikas have the fault of self-unestablished meaning and contradiction to what is commonly known, thus demonstrating the flaws in the reason. Regarding this, if this refutation has refuted all those who claim that things arise from others, then why does this refutation specifically target the Vaisheshikas? Because the things produced in that way and the production itself need to be examined. When internal things are refuted as not arising from other supports, external things are also refuted as not arising from other causes. However, some unwise people might think: 'The production of internal things has been refuted, but the production of external things has not been refuted. Therefore, if the production of external things exists, then the production of internal things will also not exist.' Therefore, in order to refute the production of external things and to benefit the wisdom of beginners, this refutation of the Vaisheshikas is specifically pointed out.

It should be done. The term "Vaiśeṣikas" refers to the disciples of the Lokāyata heretics who are known as the Vaiśeṣika school. The word "from" is a meaning that must be grasped. The Vaiśeṣikas believe that it can only be obtained from the Vaiśeṣikas, and not from anywhere else. The Vaiśeṣikas, due to their ignorance, although they deny the arising of external phenomena, they do not understand the reason behind it. The term "only atoms" refers to the Vaiśeṣikas' belief that only atoms are the cause and condition for the arising of substances with different qualities such as earth, water, fire, and wind. The term "atoms" refers to extremely tiny dust particles, so small that they cannot be further divided, that is atoms. The word "only" must also be grasped, meaning that only atoms can produce, and not from the "self." Therefore, at the time of the great destruction, the atoms produced by each of the great elements, only from these atoms, can gradually produce substances with different qualities such as earth, water, fire, and wind. The term "wanting the subtle two, etc., to gradually produce partial substances with different qualities such as earth, water, fire, and wind" refers to the Vaiśeṣikas' belief that, apart from atoms, only atoms can gradually produce the subtle two, etc., thereby producing partial substances with different qualities such as earth, water, fire, and wind. The term "subtle two, etc., gradually" means that according to their view, at the beginning of the formation of the world, Īśvara wants to create the world, and the karma of sentient beings is fully matured, therefore, under the influence of dharma and non-dharma, initially only earth and other atoms combine to form two atoms, which is called "the substance of two atoms." After that, a third atom is combined with this "substance of two atoms," which is called "the atom of two atoms." After that, the "atom of two atoms" gradually combines, like hailstones, thereby producing partial substances with different qualities such as earth, water, fire, and wind. It is said that this is the process of gradual production. Earth
