In both sides' positions, regarding the internal sense bases, relying on those that have become other (states), such as flickering and moistness, which are considered 'otherness,' what needs to be proven is that the causes of these dharmas do not arise from other causes, which is acknowledged by both the proponent and the opponent. And, the dharma that proves they do not arise from other causes, which is 'otherness,' is also acknowledged by both the proponent and the opponent. Because both of these exist, it is a 'subject of dharma.' For example, the subject of dharma, a pot, does not arise from other causes because it possesses otherness. Similarly, here, the subject of dharma, the internal sense bases, which is the position of both the proponent and the opponent. Regarding the internal sense bases, relying on those that have become other (states), such as flickering and moistness, which are considered 'otherness,' what needs to be proven is that the causes of these dharmas do not arise from other causes, which is acknowledged by both the proponent and the opponent. And, the dharma that proves they do not arise from other causes, which is 'otherness,' is also acknowledged by both the proponent and the opponent. Because both of these exist, it is a 'subject of dharma.' The subject of dharma, the internal sense bases, they also do not arise from other causes because they possess otherness, just like a pot. Therefore, whatever possesses otherness, it does not arise from other causes, just like a pot. The internal sense bases also possess otherness, therefore, they also do not arise from other causes. If, because of the similarity in possessing otherness, it is asserted that the internal sense bases arise from other causes, while a pot does not arise from other causes, then, in that case, this reason asserts that the internal sense bases arise from other causes, while this reason asserts that a pot does not arise from other causes, so a special reason that serves as a distinction must be stated. Because those who claim arising from other do not consider a pot to arise from other causes in the case of the pot possessing otherness, therefore, the internal sense bases also

Because it is 'otherness,' it is established that they do not arise from causes. Furthermore, why are things considered to arise from others? It is to make the unobtained self-nature of 'otherness' obtainable. If it is thought that they arise from other causes, then if the internal sources of arising are already 'otherness' before arising from other causes, what is the use of examining them arising from other causes? Because it is said (in the scriptures) that 'otherness does not arise from others.' Furthermore, it will also become an inconsistent contradiction: if it is already 'otherness,' it will not not arise from others; if it arises from others, it is not 'otherness.' Furthermore, in the world, 'otherness' arising from others is contradictory, just as in the world, a vase can do things like holding honey, water, and milk, which is clearly 'otherness,' but it has not been seen to arise from others. If, in ultimate truth, it is refuted that all internal and external things do not arise from others, why are only the internal sources of arising taken as the subject here? This is because, according to the reasoning stated (in the scriptures), 'Whatever is seen in one thing, it is desired to be seen in all things; whatever is the emptiness of one, that is the emptiness of all.' If it is established that the internal sources of arising do not arise from others, then all phenomena, including external sources of arising, will also be established as not arising from others; moreover, if the internal sources of arising are taken as the subject, other external sources of arising can be taken as the reason and example, therefore only the internal sources of arising are taken as the subject here. Alternatively, wanting to speak of 'other' in ultimate truth, those that establish the internal sources of arising such as the eye are definitely not causes, because they are 'otherness,' just like genetic siblings and so on. This refutes that causes are not causes. Among them, the word 'also' is the previous conjunction saying that the result, the internal sources of arising such as the eye, relative to the cause, those that have become other, such as being red and tender, are already 'otherness,' so they do not arise from other causes, thus refuting the result.
