Whatever is a proposition, and whatever is a statement combined with reason and example, is such. The term "unreasonable" refers to the assertion made by the Madhyamikas that phenomena do not arise from themselves, which is determined to be unreasonable through inference. The phrase "in order to eliminate the arbitrarily established prior position" refers to the "prior position" that the Madhyamikas refute, namely, those who assert arising in this way, some of whom say that phenomena arise from themselves, which is what the Madhyamikas themselves say. The term "arbitrarily" refers to one's own thought, which is certain. The term "establisher" refers to the fabricator. The phrase "in order to eliminate" means in order to refute. This is explained as follows: The Madhyamikas assert that the inner sense bases are definitely not produced from themselves, because they exist. For example, just as knowledge exists. Whatever is a proposition, and whatever is a statement combined with reason and example, is unreasonable. Why? Because the prior position refuted by the Madhyamikas, namely, those who assert arising in this way, some of whom say that phenomena arise from themselves, as previously stated, none of those who assert arising say such a thing, but the Madhyamikas themselves arbitrarily establish it. Therefore, in order to eliminate that phenomena do not arise from themselves, it is unreasonable to examine it through inference. How is that? It is like eliminating the arising of the three realms from a rabbit's horn. For example, no one admits that a rabbit's horn can produce the three realms, but some people just casually say that a rabbit's horn can produce the three realms, and then they themselves eliminate it, saying that it is impossible for a rabbit's horn to produce the three realms, and refute it, just like that. Here, too, no one admits that phenomena arise from themselves, but you Madhyamikas yourselves arbitrarily establish the prior position, saying that among those who assert arising in this way, some say that phenomena arise from themselves, and then you yourselves eliminate it, saying that phenomena arise from themsel

It is also unreasonable to refute by saying "there is no arising." This is declared as follows: I have not promised that internal sources of arising, etc., while having a clear nature, arise from the self, or that sprouts, while having a clear nature, arise from the self. Rather, it is like this: the power of internal sources of arising, etc., exists in the state of being tender sprouts, etc., therefore, brightness arises from power; the power of sprouts also exists in each determined seed. Therefore, it is promised that brightness arises from power. Therefore, even though we do not say that things arise from the self, it is unreasonable for you to exclude by saying that things do not arise from the self. This is what the Samkhya school and other proponents of power say when Madhyamikas refute the assertion that things do not arise from the self with inference. To those who refute with contradictory inference, Here, an explanation is given because the answer is given by the very contradiction of inference. Because power and clarity are not different in nature, like the nature of the self, arising from that is called arising from the self, so the first proposition is established, so it is said. Here, the so-called "nature of power" is the subject, and the so-called "the nature of power is not different from the nature of clarity" is the dharma to be established. The so-called "because of the non-difference of nature" is the established dharma. The so-called "like the nature of the self" is an example, so combine it. The so-called "arising from that is called arising from the self, so the first proposition is established" is the result of valid cognition. Among them, for "power and clarity are," here, a single combination can demonstrate the valid cognition that proves the non-difference of the two, pointing to the side of power and clarity. Among them, the so-called "power" refers to the Samkhya's consideration of the power of the effect existing in the cause beforehand, the nature of this power is the dharma to be established, the nature of power is not different from the nature of clarity, and the established dharma, the nature of both power and clarity.
