In order to personally instruct, the term "rejection" is used to indicate the present meaning. What is the present meaning? It is the explanation given by the venerable Buddhapālita himself: "Things do not arise from their own nature, because their arising would become meaningless, and their arising would become endless." To reject from that means to reject the present meaning. Rejecting the statement "Things do not arise from their own nature" implies that things arise from otherness; rejecting the statement "their arising would become meaningless" implies that arising becomes fruitful; rejecting the statement "arising would become endless" implies that arising has an end. Therefore, because this is a flawed statement, it is also unreasonable. How does rejecting the present meaning become a flawed statement? Therefore, it is said, "Because the thing to be established and its properties reveal the meaning of rejection." "The thing to be established" refers to establishing that "things do not arise from their own nature." "Revealing the meaning of rejection" refers to revealing the meaning of rejecting the statement "things do not arise from their own nature," which is that things arise from otherness. "Its properties" refers to the properties of the thing to be established, that is, the properties of the aspect of the statement to be established, "things do not arise from their own nature," which are "their arising would become meaningless, and their arising would become endless." "Revealing the meaning of rejection" refers to revealing the meaning of rejecting the statement "their arising would become meaningless," which is "arising becomes fruitful," and revealing the meaning of rejecting the statement "arising would become endless," which is "arising has an end." What kind of flaw arises if the revelation of these meanings is rejected? Therefore, things arise from otherness, arising becomes fruitful, and arising...

It is said, "Because there will be faults." The objects to be established, it is impossible for them to arise from their own nature, the opposite meaning shown by this statement, there will be an opportunity for objects to arise from elsewhere. And, with those dharmas, arising will become meaningless, the opposite meaning shown by this statement, there will be an opportunity for arising to be with fruit. And, with that dharma, arising will become endless, the opposite meaning shown by this statement, there will be an opportunity for arising to be finite. If that is the case, what fault will there be? For the answer to the former question raised from the heart, it will become contradictory to the tenet," thus it is said. Like this, from the scholar's teachings, the tenet that objects are not considered to arise from elsewhere, arising is not considered to be with fruit, and arising is not considered to be finite, is contradictory. Therefore, the explanation made by Sthavira Buddhapalita is not reasonable because it contradicts the proof and the scriptures. Others say, "The statement that objects do not arise from me is unreasonable, because it is to eliminate the arbitrarily established former, just like eliminating the arising of the three realms from a rabbit's horn." It is said that these are the words of the Samkhyas who assert power, using inference to refute the proof of the Madhyamikas who say that objects do not arise from me. Among them, "Others say" refers to the Samkhyas who assert power. Here, "The statement that objects do not arise from me" is the subject to be proven; "is unreasonable" is the dharma to be established; "in order to eliminate the arbitrarily established former" is the dharma of the proof; "just like eliminating the arising of the three realms from a rabbit's horn" is the example. Among them, "The statement that objects do not arise from me" refers to the Madhyamikas' determination that the internal sources of arising do not arise from me, because they exist. For example, just like the existence of knowledge.
