Because arising would become meaningless, and because arising would become endless. The statement "thus explaining" indicates that the master Buddhapālita, who explains this when proving that things do not arise from themselves, explains it in this way. Here, "this" refers to the occasion when proving that things do not arise from themselves. The word "other" indicates that there are many who explain this treatise, such as: in the presence of the master, and the venerable Buddhapālita, and Chandrakīrti, and Devaśarman, and Guṇaśrī, and Guṇamati, and Sthiramati, and up to the master Sthiramati himself, from those many others, that is, in connection with the venerable Buddhapālita. The venerable Buddhapālita says that things do not arise from themselves, because their arising would become meaningless, and because arising would become endless. Here, "things" refers to the outer and inner sources of arising. "From the self of self" refers to self, which is a synonym for "from self," that is, from it. "No arising" refers to ultimate truth. Why do things not arise from the self of self? Because their arising would become meaningless, their arising refers to the arising of those things. "Meaningless" refers to being devoid of meaning, that is, meaningless, which is to say, without result. "Itself" refers to the arising of those things, the meaningless thing is that the arising of those things itself is meaningless. The phrase "because their arising would become meaningless" indicates that if things arise from what already exists, then their arising would become meaningless, because in this way, from what has already arisen, there is no difference that has not previously occurred. Furthermore, because arising would become endless, if what already exists still arises, then it will continue to arise, and in this way, it will continue to arise until death, therefore arising will only become without complete exhaustion, thus explaining.

That is to say: The venerable Buddhapālita, in the context of proving that things do not arise from themselves, explains it in this way. But that is not reasonable, because no reason or example is stated, and because the faults stated by others are not eliminated. Moreover, because it is a word that can be seized upon, because it is reversed from the meaning of the present, thereby revealing the meaning of what is to be established and the reversal of its dharma, therefore things will become arising from others, arising will become with fruit, and arising will become finite, therefore it will contradict the author's limits. The commentator himself says that the explanation of the venerable Buddhapālita is unreasonable, which is the word to establish unreasonableness. Among them, "that is not reasonable" means that the explanation of the venerable Buddhapālita is not reasonable, which is the proposition. Why is it not reasonable? Because no reason or example is stated. It is shown in this way: In that explanation, only the proposition that "things do not arise from themselves" is proclaimed, but words such as "because of such and such, there is no reason for self-arising," and words such as "the example of something existing not arising from itself, like something that has knowledge," are not stated, therefore that is not reasonable. Furthermore, because the faults stated by others are not eliminated. If in that, the reason and example have been stated, and the establishment has been completely explained, but for it, the faults stated by others who say arising will inevitably arise, but you have not eliminated it. Therefore, because the faults stated by others are not eliminated, that is not reasonable. Also, how is that not reasonable? Because it is a word that can be seized upon. The explanation of the venerable Buddhapālita is a word that can be seized upon by other opponents, therefore it is also not reasonable. The sound of the word "also" is not only unreasonable because no reason or example is stated, and because the faults stated by others are not eliminated, but also because it is a word that can be seized upon, so it is also unreasonable, it should be connected in this way.
