If saying "is" is because it arises from existing in the nature of the self-cause? Then, what is the meaning of "from self" in your vow that the inner sense bases do not arise "from self"? This is the question being discussed. Does "from the nature of the effect" mean that it does not arise from the nature that exists as the manifest essence of the effect? This is the question being asked. Or, does "from the nature of the cause" mean that it is insisted that it does not arise from the nature of the cause that possesses the potential of the effect? "What would be the result of that?" means that both of those positions have faults. To explain this, it is said, "If from the nature of the effect, then it is stating what is already established." "If from the nature of the effect" means if it is argued that it does not arise from the nature that exists as the manifest essence of the effect. "Stating what is already established" means that if that is the case, your reasoning will become the fault of stating what is already established. For example, here, when the inner sense bases such as the eye grasp objects, it is already established for the entire world that those that already exist in the manifest essence of the ability do not arise, so if it is argued that it does not arise from that, then it is stating what is already established. In that case, your statement that the inner sense bases' ability to grasp objects does not arise from the nature that exists as the manifest essence of the effect, is like a madman or a possessed person saying "a pot that has already been made will be made again," it will become the fault of stating what is already established. "Or, if from the nature of the cause, then it is the very meaning of contradiction," "Or, if from the nature of the cause" means if it is argued that it does not arise from the nature of the cause that possesses the potential of the effect. "That is the very meaning of contradiction" means that if that is the case, your reasoning will become the fault of contradiction. For example, in the world, it is well known that from the nature of the cause that possesses the potential of the effect, such as fire, the effect, which is the inner sense bases, arises in the manifest essence, so if it is argued that the effect does not arise, then it is the very meaning of contradicting what is known in the world.

will change. To explain this, it is said, "All that is born arises only from having the nature of a cause." All that is born refers to anything that has arising, that is, all internal and external sources of arising. The saying "arises only from having the nature of a cause" means that all those that are born arise only from having the nature of a cause with the potential of a result, as is commonly known in the world. For example, all sources of arising in the world are seen to arise only from having the nature of a cause, such as sparks. Sprouts also arise only from having the nature of seeds, and pots are also seen to arise only from having the nature of clay. Therefore, if one argues that it does not arise from having the nature of a cause, it would contradict the statement that all things that are born in the world arise only from having the nature of a cause. Here, in order to eliminate this flaw in reasoning, some of the Samkhyas who assert the nature of the result, the cause, and both, in order to prove the arising of things, object by saying that the teacher's vow to prove that things do not arise from themselves is flawed. In response to this objection, the commentator here says: That is not good, because it only denies arising from oneself. Even if it arises from having the nature of a cause, it also eliminates arising from self and other. Having intelligence itself is to fully grasp the characteristics of having ability, so there is no fault. To this, the saying "That is not good" means that both ways of refuting seem like refutations, so it is not good. For example, this is not a repetition of what has already been established, nor is it a contradictory meaning. How is it not a repetition of what has already been established? Therefore, it is said, "Because it only denies arising from oneself." Here, the so-called repetition of what has already been established refers to the wisdom of both the debater and the objector.
