Furthermore, the internal sense-bases, because there is only no contradictory aspect of arising from oneself, namely the assertion of arising from other, that is why. The saying "because there is no contradiction in that" means that in the absence of a contradictory aspect, there is no contradiction between what is to be proven and the dharma of proof. If there were a contradictory aspect of not arising from oneself, namely the assertion of arising from other, then what is to be proven and the dharma of proof would contradict each other and become non-existent, and if one could demonstrate a sign in the manner of being certain that it does not exist in the contradictory aspect. We only lack the concordant aspect of not arising from oneself, namely the assertion of arising from other. Because there is no contradiction between what is to be proven and the dharma of proof, here it is not necessary to demonstrate a sign in the manner of being certain that it does not exist in the contradictory aspect, this is a concluding statement. The saying "there is no fault in this and all" means that in this statement of the argument, there is no fault of the defect of uncertain reason. And it is not limited to just this. Thus, in this treatise, there is no such fault in all the other proofs that will come later. It is taught thus, if there is a contradictory aspect, then one must also show that what is to be proven and the dharma of proof are contradictory. For example, "sound is impermanent because it is made," the contradictory aspect of which is that space is permanent, and in that aspect of not being made, what is to be proven and the dharma of proof, "sound is impermanent because it is made," if those two become contradictory and non-existent, then it is said: In whatever there is no contradictory aspect, there is no contradiction between what is to be proven and the dharma of proof. Therefore, if we examine my thesis, "there is no arising from oneself," and consider its contradictory aspect to be "arising from other," I have promised that all types of arising are non-existent, therefore I only lack a contradictory aspect. Because there is no contradiction in that, there is no fault of reason. Nor will it become incomplete in the nature of reason, thus, because I only lack a contradictory aspect. In that, the very fact that the nature of reason does not apply is also a contradiction, therefore, in the manner of being certain that it does not exist in the contradictory aspect.

It is also established by reason. Here, some of the Samkhyas will refute. What is the meaning of this pledge? Does the term "from self" mean arising from the nature of the effect, or from the nature of the cause? What difference would that make? If it arises from the nature of the effect, then it is establishing what is already established. If it arises from the nature of the cause, then it is a contradictory meaning, because all things that arise are born only from the nature of the cause. If someone says that, then, in order to eliminate this fault in reasoning, some of the Samkhyas who assert the nature of the effect, the cause, and both, in order to establish the arising of phenomena, will refute the master's establishment of phenomena not arising from self, by stating the fault of the pledge. Among them, "here" refers to this occasion of eliminating the fault in reasoning. "Among the Samkhyas" refers to the twenty-five categories that are separated from the Samkhyas. "Some" refers to some of those Samkhyas who assert the cause, the effect, and both. "Refute" means that in order to establish the arising of phenomena, the master establishes that phenomena do not arise from self, and they will refute by stating the fault of the pledge. "What is the meaning of this pledge" means that the Madhyamikas pledge that phenomena do not arise from self, and they will seek fault by saying, "What is the meaning of the term 'from self'?" The phrase "What from self" indicates that all things have two natures, namely the nature of the effect and the nature of the cause. Among them, the nature of the effect refers to the effect existing in a clear manner. The nature of the cause refers to the nature of the cause that possesses the ability of the effect, and it is seen that it arises only from that. If it arises from a cause that does not have the ability of the effect, then the sprout of barley should also be able to arise from the seed of rice, but it does not actually arise. Therefore, from which cause the nature of which effect exists, that effect arises from that cause. Therefore, I pledge that phenomena arise from self.
