Regarding the aspect of Dharmakīrti's reasoning, the "existence of dharma" should be established as the existence of these two, which are recognized by both the proponent and the opponent. This is what is called the "example of similar dharma." The so-called "example of similar dharma" refers to inferring the absence of blue from the object of perception, the example of similar dharma being: there is no object in this place because the pot, which belongs to the category of objects of perception, is not visible. And, inferring impermanence from its nature, the example of similar dharma being: this is a tree because it is a sal tree. And, inferring the cause from the result, the example of similar dharma being: there is fire in the kitchen because smoke is rising. Here, for example, as the subject, the so-called "existence of consciousness," on the proponent's side, it is known to exist as "existence of consciousness," while on the opponent's side, it is known to exist as "consciousness in conventional terms." For this, the dharma to be established is "no self-origination," which is recognized by both the proponent and the opponent. And, no self-origination is the existence of the dharma to be established, which is recognized by both the proponent and the opponent, these two exist, therefore this is the subject, namely: the subject, the existence of consciousness, it has no self-origination because it exists. Similarly, here, as the subject, the so-called "internal sense bases," on the proponent's side, it is known to exist as "blessed and established by me," while on the opponent's side, it is known to exist as "capable of apprehending objects in conventional terms," similar to how sound is considered to exist as soon as it is produced. For this, the dharma to be established is "no self-origination," which is recognized by both the proponent and the opponent. And, no self-origination is the existence of the dharma to be established, which is recognized by both the proponent and the opponent, these two exist, therefore this is also the subject, namely: the subject, the internal sense bases, are also definitely without self-origination because they exist. For example, establish it like the existence of consciousness. Therefore, whatever exists, there is no origination, for example, the existence of consciousness.

It is just so. The internal sources of arising are themselves existent, therefore, for them, there is no arising either. If, because of being similar to existence, one considers that the internal sources of arising have arising, but considers that the existence of knowledge does not have arising, then, in that case, one must state a special reason, by which reason one considers that the internal sources of arising have arising, and this reason considers that the existence of knowledge does not have arising, thereby making a distinction. Because for those who claim arising from self, they do not consider that the existence of knowledge in the state of existence will arise. Therefore, the internal sources of arising should also be without arising from self-existence. Furthermore, why do you consider that things arise? If it is because one considers arising in order to obtain the essence of self that has not yet been obtained, then, if these internal sources of arising already have the essence of self before arising, then what is the use of examining arising from them? Because (in the sutra) it is said that for what has already arisen, there is no arising either. Furthermore, this will also become an inconsistent negation, if it exists, it will not arise, and if it arises, it will not exist. Furthermore, in the world, existence itself arising is contradictory, just as in the world, a pot that is clearly able to perform the actions of holding honey, water, and milk, etc., is not seen to arise again. If, from the point of view of ultimate truth, all internal and external things are determined to not arise from self, then why here, are the internal sources of arising placed as a secondary subject? This is because: Whatever is seen in one thing, That is considered to be seen in all as well. Whatever is the emptiness of one, That itself is the emptiness of all. According to this reasoning, if the internal sources of arising are proven to not arise from self, then all phenomena such as external sources of arising will also be proven to not arise from self. And, if the internal sources of arising are placed as a subject, then other things such as external sources of arising can be used as reasons and examples, therefore, the internal sources of arising are placed as a secondary subject. Eighth Chapter. If the existence of the reason itself contradicts the inconsistent side
