That which possesses that characteristic is called a subject of dharma (chos can) that possesses the fame of what is to be established and the dharma of what establishes. Because the subject of dharma is an example, the example must be shown by the power of what is to be established and the dharma of what establishes. Among these, the fame of what is to be established, that is, "not arising from oneself," is known to both the proponent and the opponent. The fame of the dharma of what establishes, that is, "possessing the dharma that establishes non-arising," is known to both the proponent and the opponent. The subject of dharma that possesses both, that is, the subject of dharma that possesses both the fame of what is to be established and the fame of the dharma of what establishes, such as the internal sense bases, etc. The example of the subject of dharma, that is, possessing knowledge, etc. For example, possessing knowledge, for that subject of dharma, the dharma to be established, "not arising from oneself," is known to both the proponent and the opponent, and the dharma of what establishes, "possessing," is known to both the proponent and the opponent. Similarly, here, for the subject of dharma, the internal sense bases, etc., the dharma to be established, "not arising from oneself," is known to both the proponent and the opponent, and the dharma of what establishes, "possessing," is known to both the proponent and the opponent, because it shows possessing. Therefore, the example is the fame of what is to be established and the dharma of what establishes, because it is an example of a subject of dharma that possesses. As it is said, just as it is said, in any example, that which is pervaded by the concomitance of what is to be established and the reason is a homogeneous example. For the negation of "not from oneself," it should be regarded as the meaning of negating without an example. If someone doubts, here, the negation of "from oneself," should it be regarded as the meaning of negating without negation? Like this, grammatically speaking, there are two kinds of negation, that is, negating without and negating not. Therefore, in order to distinguish negating not, here, it is said that the negation of "not from oneself" should be regarded as the meaning of negating without, because it negates the meaning of things not arising from themselves.

It should be observed in this way. If it is said, "not born from me," then it should not be observed in the sense of a non-affirming negation, this is its summary. So, what are the characteristics of these two negations? As it is said: Negation shows meaning, Accomplishes with one word, Possesses that does not show its own word, Non-other is other. It is said in this way, that is to say, whatever negation shows meaning, accomplishes things with one word, is connected with showing meaning and accomplishing things, does not show with its own words, for example, not using the word "kingly lineage" to represent a kingly lineage, but using the word "not a Brahmin" to represent it, that should be regarded as a non-affirming negation. The so-called "other is other" refers to the negation other than non-affirming negation, which is an affirming negation. The so-called "other" refers to being different from showing meaning, different from accomplishing things with one word, different from being connected with showing meaning and accomplishing things, and different from not showing with one's own words. The so-called "other is," means that it is an affirming negation other than a non-affirming negation, this is its summary, that is, it is not showing the characteristics of meaning, but focusing on negation, negation itself is its purpose, it only negates what others acknowledge, but does not accomplish the thing itself or the absence of the thing itself, nor does it possess meaning, nor does it possess things, it only possesses negation, and shows with its own words, for example, simply saying "not a Brahmin," it is merely carrying out negation. Why abandon non-affirming negation and take affirming negation? Therefore, it is said, "because negation is primary," meaning that affirming negation is taken here because negation is primary, while non-affirming negation is not taken here because accomplishment is primary. The so-called "negation is primary" means that from affirming negation, negation is primary, and it is able to accomplish through thought and intention, that is what negation is primary. The so-called "because negation is primary."
