It is said that it possesses the distinction of earth. The statement "it is not unique to the Shravakas" means that since such dependent origination also exists in the three pitakas, it is not unique to the Shravakas; rather, it is only common. Therefore, it is said that there is no need to compose a treatise. The statement "therefore, there is no need to compose a treatise" means that such dependent origination, possessing distinctions such as non-arising, is the way of the scriptures. Because it is common to the Shravakas, it is said that there is no need to compose this treatise called Madhyamaka here. It is said that in this treatise, when explaining the basis of distinction, dependent origination, which arises from the Prajnaparamita, namely the distinctions of non-arising, non-cessation, non-severance, non-permanence, non-coming, non-going, non-different meaning, and non-one meaning, some Buddhists covered by the net of bad intelligence misunderstand the meaning. Therefore, some Shravaka Sutrantikas say so. In response to that objection, the commentary here is extensive and diverse, but to show that it is not so, because it merely shows that birth itself is the nature of non-birth, because it acknowledges the distinctions of dependent origination such as non-birth, it is said that because that is a very great distinction, it is not that there is no need to compose a treatise. What is shown by "because it merely shows that birth itself is the nature of non-birth"? I say that you, Shravaka Sutrantikas, rely on the eye and forms to generate eye consciousness, and rely on seeds and conditions to generate sprouts, etc., and that birth that you acknowledge merely shows the nature of non-birth. Similarly, you acknowledge cessation because it ceases by itself, you acknowledge non-severance because the fruit arises depending on the cause, and you acknowledge non-permanence because the cause ceases when the fruit arises.

The promise, and the promise that it will perish in another place of birth and will not come, and the promise that it will perish in this place of birth and will not leave, and the promise that because there are no fruits from the causes and conditions, it is not the same meaning, and the promise that because similar fruits arise from similar causes and conditions, it is not a different meaning, all of which All of them only show the nature of non-cessation, etc. Because it is admitted that dependent arising has the characteristics of non-birth, etc., there is a great difference between you and therefore it shows that it is very necessary to make a treatise. Because it is admitted that dependent arising has the characteristics of non-birth, etc., it is said that I am the birth and death, etc. that you admit. It only shows the nature of non-birth and non-cessation, etc. Therefore, the basis of the characteristics arising from the Prajnaparamita is called dependent arising. The characteristic is that it admits having non-birth and non-cessation, etc. That is because the characteristics are very large, because your promise and the dependent arising that I promised, that characteristic is very large. The dependent arising arising from the Prajnaparamita has the characteristics of non-birth, etc., which is not common with the Shravaka vehicle. Therefore, it is said that it is not that there is no need to make a treatise, because in that way, because the characteristics are very large, it is not common with the Shravaka vehicle, therefore here, in front of the teacher, it is said that this treatise called the "Madhyamaka" is not that it is not necessary to make, but it is only necessary. This is the summary. In this way, the statement that there is no need to make a treatise is answered, and here, if those who are attached to the characteristics say that the dependent arising arising from the Prajnaparamita has eight characteristics such as non-birth, etc., this is because it is separated from the characteristics of dependent arising. For example, it is similar to the treatises of Samkhya, etc., so it is not the Buddha's words.

What is the nature of dependent origination? It is like this: the very nature of arising in order, and the very nature of reversing from order, and the very nature of cause and effect. Among them, what is the very nature of arising in order? As the Bhagavan said, what are the twelve links of dependent origination? It is like this: conditioned by ignorance, there are formations; conditioned by formations, there is consciousness; conditioned by consciousness, there are name and form; conditioned by name and form, there are the six sense sources; conditioned by the six sense sources, there is contact; conditioned by contact, there is feeling; conditioned by feeling, there is craving; conditioned by craving, there is grasping; conditioned by grasping, there is becoming; conditioned by becoming, there is birth; conditioned by birth, there will be aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation. Thus, this great mass of suffering will arise, so it is said. What is the very nature of reversing from order? It is like this: with the cessation of ignorance, formations cease; with the cessation of formations, consciousness ceases; with the cessation of consciousness, name and form cease; with the cessation of name and form, the six sense sources cease; with the cessation of the six sense sources, contact ceases; with the cessation of contact, feeling ceases; with the cessation of feeling, craving ceases; with the cessation of craving, grasping ceases; with the cessation of grasping, becoming ceases; with the cessation of becoming, birth ceases; with the cessation of birth, aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation cease. Thus, this great mass of suffering will cease, so it is said. What is the very nature of cause and effect? It is like this: ignorance is the very nature of cause, and the remaining eleven links, such as formations, are the very nature of effect. Or, ignorance is the very nature of cause for formations, and formations are the very nature of effect for ignorance; formations are the very nature of cause for consciousness, and consciousness is the very nature of effect for formations; consciousness is
