This is the reason. Because there is no arising from that other than that, this is called a doctrinal point. For example, eye and form, light and space, attention, etc., when the collection of causes and conditions is present, other than that, the result, such as ear consciousness, and vase and cloth, etc., and sprout and trunk, etc., do not arise, so it is called no arising. Or, the result, such as eye consciousness, other than that, the result, such as ear consciousness, and vase and cloth, etc., and sprout and trunk, etc., different kinds do not arise, so it is called no arising. Things are not without arising in all cases. Therefore, relying on eye and form, etc., eye consciousness arises; relying on mind and dharmas, etc., mind consciousness arises; from the collection of causes and conditions of seed and earth, water, fire, wind, space, and time, a sprout arises; from the collection of causes and conditions of clay and stick, wheel and thread, water and fire, a vase arises; from the collection of causes and conditions of raw cotton and spinning, loom and shuttle, heddle and rope, etc., cloth arises. Similarly, from similar causes and conditions, similar results arise. Like not being Ishvara, this is a metaphor. For example, it is said that things arise from Ishvara, but not from Ishvara do things arise, but karma and afflictions arise, just as seeds and conditions produce sprouts. Or, like not being Ishvara, Ishvara refers to someone who has attained magical powers and can transform from one to many; not being Ishvara refers to someone who has not attained magical powers. For someone who has not attained magical powers, a second body will not arise from the real body, but for him, the real body itself is not without arising. Similarly, the no arising of things should also be viewed in this way. No cessation, this is also a doctrinal point. It is said in the scriptures that the special source is dependent origination.

The distinction called "non-cessation." Saying "because of the non-cessation thoroughly conceived by the heretics" is also a tenet of the doctrine. For example, the heretics thoroughly conceive that cessation has a cause. As it is said: "Brahma himself is the creator of the world, the violent one gathers beings, the person himself is the one who abandons, the self-born is the three states." Like this thoroughly conceived, because of non-cessation, it is called non-cessation. Or, the heretics thoroughly conceive that cessation has a cause. As it is said: "Those born from karma will cease at the end of the eon of destruction." Like this thoroughly conceived, because of non-cessation, it is called non-cessation. For things, there is no non-cessation in any case. Therefore, things themselves cease moment by moment. Saying "like non-self" is also a metaphor. For example, the self of things that the heretics acknowledge, the body or the thumb, or the grain of wheat, or the barnyard millet, or the cooked rice, etc., inside of which there is a person who acts, although that self does not exist, it is not that there is no self of the five aggregates, similarly, the non-cessation of things should also be viewed in the same way. They say this. Saying "no annihilation and no permanence" is also a tenet. The basis of distinction that appears in the scriptures, that is, the distinction of dependent origination, is called no annihilation and no permanence. Saying "relying on the cause, the effect is born, and when the effect is born, the cause ceases" is also a tenet of the doctrine. For example, annihilation means the characteristic of discontinuity. Because relying on the cause, the effect is born by the power of the cause, that is the characteristic of continuity, therefore it is no annihilation. Because the effect is born, and at the time of birth, the cause of different characteristics ceases, therefore it is no permanence. They say this. Saying "no coming and no going" is also a tenet. The basis of distinction that appears in the scriptures, that is, the distinction of dependent origination, is called

That which is called "without coming and without going." That which is called "it perishes in the very place where it is born" is also a doctrine of tenets. Thus, there is no cessation of things coming and going from any place to another. Why? Whatever is born perishes in the very place where it is born, so there is no going elsewhere. Whatever is born in another place also perishes in that other place where it is born, so there is no coming here. Therefore, it is said to be without coming and without going. So it is said. That which is called "not different in meaning, not the same in meaning" is also a doctrine. What is said in the scriptures, the special basis, the special arising of interdependence, is called "not different in meaning, not the same in meaning." That which is called "it is not to be said as being the same as that, nor is it to be said as being different from that" is also a doctrine of tenets. Thus, whatever arises from any cause and condition, that cause and condition and that thing are not to be said as being the same, nor are they to be said as being different. Therefore, it is said to be not different in meaning and not the same in meaning. That which is called "like a jewel, or firewood, or fire arising from contact with the sun" is also an example. For example, the fire arising from a jewel meeting a fire mirror, or the fire arising from meeting firewood, or the fire arising from meeting the sun, whatever that fire is, if one searches for it separately from the jewel, firewood, and sun, it is not found in the jewel, firewood, and sun. Therefore, the cause and the effect are not the same. Why? That fire arises from the conditions of the jewel, firewood, and sun, so it is not different from them. Therefore, the similarity of the cause and the effect is also not different. Likewise, things are also not different in meaning and not the same in meaning from the cause and condition from which they arise. So it is said. That which is called "such interdependence is the principle of the scriptures" means that such interdependence, which is endowed with eight special qualities such as no birth and no cessation, is the interdependence taught by the Buddha, no birth, etc.
