Therefore, it is called the Great Vehicle because of truly and unerringly understanding the selflessness of phenomena (Sanskrit: dharma) and persons (Sanskrit: pudgala). In this, selflessness is of two types: the selflessness of phenomena and the selflessness of persons. Among these, phenomena (Sanskrit: dharma) refers to holding the characteristics of the two truths, conventional and ultimate, hence they are called phenomena. A person (Sanskrit: pudgala) is one who repeatedly takes rebirth in samsara, or repeatedly takes and goes, hence they are called persons. The selflessness of those phenomena and persons means being separated from the nature of those phenomena and persons. "Itself" means that the entity of the selflessness of phenomena and persons is the very selflessness of phenomena and persons. That, truly and unerringly understanding, means unerringly understanding the selflessness of phenomena and persons as it truly is. Thus, to understand those phenomena and persons in a reversed and mistaken way is to think, "How is it that phenomena and persons are selfless in the ultimate sense, and therefore completely nonexistent in the conventional sense as well?" Or, "How is it that all things exist in the conventional sense, and therefore all things exist in the ultimate sense as well?" Reversing that is truly and unerringly understanding. "Therefore" means that because of that truly and unerringly understanding, the Bhagavan is called the perfect Buddha. Or, because of truly awakening and causing all to awaken, it is also called truly perfect Buddha. Or, as the Bhagavan himself said in the Sutra of the Wheel of the Irreversible, "Since he awakened to all phenomena as unreal, without elaboration, and without inherent nature, like an illusion, therefore he is called Buddha." Like that which was said. "Of the speakers" means by the speakers, the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, because by unerringly teaching dependent origination, they show the path that leads to higher realms and liberation. To the question, "Who are those called 'speakers'? Why are they called 'speakers' because of what they speak?" Therefore, "speakers" refers to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas who speak.

They are the Bodhisattvas, that is why they are. Why are they called speakers? Therefore, by showing the dependent arising without reversing it, it makes the path to attain heaven and liberation easy. For this reason, it is said that the speakers are the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, who also show the dependent arising without reversing it, making the path to attain heaven and liberation easy. Connect this with that. Among them, showing the dependent arising without reversing it means that with ignorance as the condition, there are actions, etc., the twelve links of dependent arising arise in order, and the way to reverse from the order is shown without reversing it. The word "itself" means that the object that shows the dependent arising without reversing it is the dependent arising itself that shows it without reversing it. Therefore, by showing the dependent arising itself without reversing it, it makes the path to attain heaven and liberation easy, and for this reason, they are called speakers. Among them, the so-called heaven refers to the gods and humans of the desire realm, as well as the form realm and the formless realm. The so-called liberation refers to the two types of Nirvana: with remainder and without remainder. The so-called path to attain is the infallible path, such as the path to attain heaven and the gods and humans of the desire realm, which are the paths of the ten virtuous actions. The path to attain the heaven of the form realm is the four dhyanas. The path to attain the heaven of the formless realm is the four formless absorptions. The path to attain the two types of liberation is the noble eightfold path, which is gathered by the characteristics of right view, etc., and its retinue. The so-called making it easy to show means.

Thus, the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who speak, also show the path to attain higher realms and liberation by correctly and without reversal teaching dependent origination, therefore they are called speakers. The term "supreme" means excellent. Why? Because it reveals the nature of dependent origination as not ceasing, not arising, and so on, as previously mentioned. The fully enlightened Buddha is the supreme leader of the speakers, the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, therefore, obeisance should be made to him. Here, some other debaters say: If the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas also show the path to attain higher realms and liberation by correctly and without reversal teaching dependent origination, then how does the fully enlightened Buddha, who teaches dependent origination, become the supreme leader of the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattva speakers? To dispel the doubts that they previously held in their minds, the explanation is given here: Because he teaches dependent origination with the previously mentioned undistorted distinctions. The so-called "teaching dependent origination with the previously mentioned undistorted distinctions" means that in dependent origination, there are the previously mentioned undistorted distinctions of not ceasing, not arising, not being cut off, not being permanent, not coming, not going, not being of different meanings, not being of one meaning, the pacification of elaboration, and peace. This is the teaching of dependent origination with the previously mentioned undistorted distinctions. The so-called "because he teaches" means that the Bhagavan thus teaches dependent origination with the previously mentioned undistorted distinctions, while the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas do not teach in this way, therefore, the Bhagavan is their supreme leader.
