It is about the word "dependent arising" which did not exist before in the manner of ability. The saying "two things cannot exist at the same time" refers to the fact that the thing of dependent arising and the thing of arising cannot exist at the same time. The thing of dependent arising is earlier, and the thing of arising is later, so these two things cannot exist at the same time. Why is it impossible? Because it is said "dependent arising." Because in the Buddhist scriptures it is said "dependent arising." Therefore, the thing of dependent arising is earlier, and the thing of arising is later. What is it like? It is like bathing and then eating. For example, the act of bathing is earlier, and the act of eating is later, just as these two actions cannot exist at the same time, so it is here as well. Because it is said "dependent arising," so for the word of dependent arising, the thing of dependent arising and the thing of arising cannot exist at the same time, therefore, if there is no result, it is impossible to say dependent arising at the same time. However, if it exists, then it is dependent arising. If Buddhists say that the result exists previously in the manner of ability, and arises in dependence on causes and conditions, then the answer to them is that without a maker, a thing without a basis is also impossible, because it does not exist, just like the son of a barren woman walking. Here, the so-called "without a maker also" is the subject; the so-called "a thing without a basis is impossible" is the property to be established; the so-called "because it does not exist" is the reason to be established; the so-called "just like the son of a barren woman walking" is the example. Therefore, "without a maker, a thing without a basis is impossible" refers to the fact that if there is a maker, then relying on that basis, the thing is also possible to exist. For example, if there is a person who is the maker of cutting a tree, then relying on his tool, the ax, the thing of cutting the tree can also be accomplished. Here also, if there is a person who is the maker within the thing of the maker, then relying on him, the thing of causes and conditions, that is, the result.

If origination is also possible, the Buddhists' tenet is that there is no agent, so action without a basis is not possible. For example, in cutting a tree, if there is no agent, because there is no basis, even if there is an axe, the act of cutting the tree cannot be accomplished. Similarly, here, if there is no entity of the agent, that is, the person of the agent, because there is no basis, even if there are causal conditions for action, they cannot produce the result. Therefore, it is not possible for a result to arise from something without a basis; this is the subject. 'Because it does not exist' is the property of the subject. Why is it that even without an agent, action without a basis is not possible? Because there is no entity of the agent, that is, the person of the agent, therefore the action of causal conditions that depend on it cannot produce a result. And how is that? Like the walking of a barren woman's son. For example, since a barren woman's son does not exist at all, the act of walking with his feet that depends on him is also non-existent. Similarly, here, if there is no entity of the agent, that is, the person of the agent, because there is no basis, the action of causal conditions cannot produce a result. Therefore, if the result exists in the manner of potential, it is also not possible to say that it arises dependently at the same time. The grammarians are thus refuting the Buddhists. That is not good, for if one accepts the nature of the phenomenon of the result arising from nothing, then the path is certain. For the side of arising from existence, the meaning of the reason is also not established. The grammarian refutes arising from nothing and refutes the two proofs of arising from existence, whatever has been said, the commentator has finished speaking in response to the previous two analyses. That is not good, here it says that the grammarian refutes arising from nothing and refutes the two proofs of arising from existence, that is not good, it is flawed, this is the concluding statement. How is it not good? To that, for the moment, it is arising from nothing.
