It is obviously contradictory for oneself to act upon oneself. Because it is contradictory for a sword to cut its own edge, for a finger to touch its own tip, and for a person to worship himself with his own shoulder. Those who say that it is not otherness will not only harm their own subsequent inferences, but also to show the harm to worldly fame. For those who say that it is not otherness, there will also be harm to worldly fame, because it is famous in the world that it has become different from one's own self. Having said this, for those who say that it is not otherness, there will also be harm to worldly fame, how is it? In the world, whichever man or woman is going to go, to whichever village or city they are going to go, that person's own self and the place to be traveled are different. You say that this person has some kind of action, therefore oneself acts upon oneself, which contradicts worldly fame. Or: By what going is one manifested as a goer? That going is not that going. This is a brief indication. By what going is one manifested as a goer? That going which is manifested is not the going done by that goer, that is its definition. How is it? Because there is no goer before the going. This is a detailed explanation. Because there is no goer before the going, therefore, by what going is one manifested as a goer? That going which is manifested is not the going done by that goer. What is before the going? Therefore, before the going is before the going, that is, before the arising of the going, that is its definition. Having said this, it is at the time when the action of going has not arisen, that is its definition. What is not there before the going? Therefore, there is nothing that exists by its own self, which becomes the cause of going, or that relies on the imputation of the names of going and goer. Having said this, because there is no such goer before the going, therefore... what the Madhyamikas do and what the answer does...

The meaning of the reason that contradicts the desire not to do what one possesses is not itself an obvious contradiction, nor is it a contradiction with the world. Here, some of one's own schools say: Is it reasonable that you Madhyamikas say there is no agent? Not wanting to establish what cause as an agent is a fault of contradicting the commitment, like this, the seed is the cause of the sprout, therefore the seed is the agent of the sprout, because it is said in the scriptures. In response to that previous view they said, refuting from their side: Here, the commentator himself says: Like this, in name, the power of the wind element produced by the effort arising from the cause of intention, causes the aggregate of formations to arise in another place at a different time, that is the goer. Whatever arises from the previous moment with a different nature, that is the going. In reality, from the cause establishing as the agent, one does not even want it to be the agent itself, and so on. The Sutra masters think that establishing the cause of going as the goer, as the agent of going, that is permissible in conventional terms, but not in ultimate terms. The Sutra masters think that in ultimate terms, the cause of not going, the goer, establishing as the agent of going, that in conventional terms is permissible, in order to show the nature of the goer and the going. Like this, in name, and so on. The cause of intention, the meaning of intention is wanting to do. Intention itself is the cause, so it is the cause of intention. What is the cause of? It is the cause of effort, therefore it is said that the effort arises from the cause of intention. The movement of effort is the nature. Effort produces the wind element, therefore it is said that the wind element is produced by effort. The power of the wind element means its power. By its power, the aggregate of formations arises in another place at a different time, and it is connected to being the goer. The aggregate of formations means the collection of the four great elements and what is transformed from the four great elements, which is the body. The body arises from one place to another, and when the time is different, continuously

The one who arises is the goer. The previous moment of that goer is called the nature of immovability. The different nature from that is called the nature of movement. Whatever arises is connected to "is going," the cause of going is that goer, because Devadatta is immovable. Therefore, it is permissible in conventional truth to designate the goer as the cause of going as the agent of going. To show that this is not permissible in ultimate truth, it is said, "In reality, from the point of view of designating the cause as the agent, it is not allowed to be the agent itself," meaning that in ultimate truth, it is not allowed that "the goer goes," because the goer does not make his own nature. Why is it not allowed that the cause of going, the goer, is the agent of going itself? It is said, "Thus, who goes where." It means that the goer like Devadatta, where will the village and city to be traveled go, because it is recognized in the world that this is different from the nature of the goer, therefore, the going here and the goer as the cause of going are not different from the nature of going, so it is not allowed that the cause of going, the goer, is the agent of going itself. To show that point, it is said, "It is not one's own nature, because it is unreasonable to act on one's own nature." It means that the cause of going, the goer, is the nature of going, so it is not the agent of its going itself, because just as a sword cannot cut its own blade, a finger cannot touch its own tip, a person cannot offer to his own shoulder, etc., it is unreasonable to act on one's own nature. Thus, for the time being, from one's own school, "By what going does it appear as a goer, that going does not go there." This is the conclusion, for the Sutra school, the meaning of the Madhyamika's reasoning has a function, therefore, that which has a function does not act, this is not contradictory. For the view of the Samkhya school, earth, etc...
