Since there is no establishment, when defeated, are the goer and the going the same entity? Or are they different entities? To contemplate this is a fallacy, so it is said. As a response to this saying, the commentator himself says here: If there are things that are one entity, if there are things that are another entity, if the goer and the going are established as the same entity and another entity, then those two become known as existing, when in what way as said, oneness and otherness, if those that are established do not exist, how are those two established? Therefore, as such, wanting to negate the very thingness of that, it is not an inappropriate time, and also because of preventing the complete imputation of oneness and so on, it is not a fallacy, so it is said. This world, whatever things are considered to exist, those are either the same entity, or they exist as another entity, the thingness of the goer and the going is also, if it is established as the same entity or another entity, like fire and heat, or like a pot and cloth, then those two become known as existing, when? If once the going is what, that itself is the goer, then the agent and the action itself, will also become the fault of being the same entity. And, if for the going and the goer, one separately contemplates as another entity, then it becomes a going without a goer, and a goer without a going. As such, in the way as said, if those that are established as oneness and otherness do not exist, how can that be established? Therefore, as such, the goer and the going are not the same entity and another entity, as such making a proposition, that is because wanting to negate the very thingness of that going, it is also not an inappropriate time, so it also does not become a place of annihilation, and also because of preventing the complete imputation of oneness and so on by the Samkhyas and others, it is also not a fallacy, as such it is shown. Others say: Even if one cannot definitely grasp as oneness and otherness, but with the establishment of the goer and the going, there is no fault as said, so it is said, the Sutrantikas and others say the goer.

Although it cannot be definitively grasped that the goer and the going are the same or different, it is established that the goer and the going are in the manner of cause and effect, and are not to be expressed as the same or different. Therefore, we do not have the faults of sameness and difference as mentioned before. That is what they say. In response to that saying, the commentator here says that the answer is the same for that saying. That is, those things are the same, and those things are different, these two can be understood in name. But you think it is ultimate truth, if sameness and difference are not established, then how are these two established? Because it does not exist, there is no inference that can show the existence of things that do not exist in sameness and difference. Having said this. In response to the Sautrāntikas saying that, the answer is still the previous repetition. That is, those things are the same, and those things are different, these two can be understood to exist in conventional terms. For example, in conventional terms, some things are the same, and some things are different. But you Sautrāntikas think it is ultimate truth, the goer and the going exist in the manner of cause and effect, and are not to be expressed as the same or different. Then, if sameness and difference are established, then how can these two be established in the manner of cause and effect, and not be expressed as the same or different? Because it does not exist. For things that do not exist in sameness and difference, there is no inference that can show that they exist in the manner of cause and effect, and are not to be expressed as the same or different. So that is also unreasonable. That is what the teacher thinks. Previously, this repetition was applied closely to completely avoid the place of annihilation and later faults. Here, in order to completely avoid the Sautrāntikas' conception of existence as not to be expressed as the same or different, it should be applied closely.
