is. In response to that statement, here, by way of explanation, it is stated that even for those things, it is inevitable that the distinct expression, "This is other, and this is also other," arises, and because they are mutually dependent, there is no fault. For example, when a potter does not make pottery and does not rely on pottery, there is no term "potter." But by relying on the potter, one says "pottery," and by relying on the pottery, one says "potter." Through this way, it is inevitable that the distinct expression, "This is other, and this is also other," arises, and because they are mutually dependent, therefore, there is no fault of the reason being unestablished, it is shown. Here, some Vaibhashikas say: What you Madhyamikas say, that relying on the potter, there is another weaver, and relying on the weaver, there is another potter, and therefore those two are mutually dependent, is not acceptable. Because we assert that by distinguishing what is not other, it is other itself, and it possesses the quality of being other itself, therefore your Madhyamika's reason is unestablished. In response to that former position they raised, here, by way of explanation, it is stated that for those which are other because of distinguishing what is not other, or because of possessing otherness, even relying on those, it is inevitable that the distinct expression, "This is other, and this is also other," arises, and because they are mutually dependent, therefore, there is no non-establishment of the reason, it is stated. For those who assert that something is other by distinguishing what is not other, for example, relying on distinguishing what is not a pot, one can say that cloth is other. Because this distinct expression inevitably arises, it is mutually dependent. And for those who assert that something is other because it possesses the quality of otherness, for example, relying on the quality of otherness, one can say, "This horse is other, and this ox is also other." Because this distinct expression inevitably arises, it is mutually dependent. Therefore, there is no non-establishment of our reason, it is shown. Here, other logicians say: Well then, the meaning expressed by the Madhyamika's reason

So, what kind of dependence does the one with the agent have? Is it because of the dependence that the agent and the action, like the nature of the action itself, do not become other? Or is it because of the dependence that the potter and the carpenter are different individuals? Therefore, the reason of the Madhyamaka school is uncertain. In response to this previous view raised by the opponent, the commentator here says that merely through the inference shown above, since otherness is not established, there is no contradictory side, so it is not uncertain either. Merely through the inference shown above with the characteristic of refuting the otherness of the agent and the action, since the potter and the carpenter, etc., are not established as other. Since there is no contradictory side that is not otherness, my reason is not uncertain either. Here other objectors say, then you Madhyamikas say that the agent and the action are not other, and the potter and the carpenter, etc., are not other, which contradicts the view of those worldly people who consider them to be other, so there will be damage to reputation. In response to this previous view raised by the opponent, the commentator here says that there is no damage to reputation either, because the analysis of reality is not controlled by untrained people such as carpenters, and because it has been explained before. In reality, this true analysis that all dharmas are not other is not controlled by untrained people such as worldly carpenters and cowherd's wives. Just as it was said before that birth exists in conventional truth, but birth does not exist in ultimate truth. Similarly, here it is also explained that it is other in conventional truth, but it is not other in ultimate truth, so there is no fault of becoming damage to reputation. If someone thinks that the action and the agent are other, because there is a designation, such as being called "Devadatta's horse." This is to say that those who assert otherness argue that the action and the agent are other through the existence of the designation of the agent's action. Here also
