i is the Dharma to be practiced. Because it is the path, this refers to the Dharma of practice. For example, like a path that has been traveled. This refers to a metaphor, combined to say. For example, because it is a path that has been traveled, it is unreasonable to say that there is walking on it, just like that. The so-called "walking," whether it is the nature that is intentionally excluded or not, because it is also the path. Therefore, on that, it is unreasonable to have walking. The author of the sutra thought so. Or, how can it be reasonable to have walking on walking? This refers to the fact that debate and examination are the same. The author of the sutra thought so, that is, walking is the path, so it is unreasonable to have walking on it, not only that, but there is also the fault of debate and examination being the same on it. Again, it is said that it is unreasonable to have walking. The author of the sutra thought so. To illustrate this, if one examines whether there is walking in meditation, then the same situation of debate and examination will also occur here, thus it is said. Debate and examination are the same, referring to the same refutation. What is that? If one asks, is the movement on the path that has been traveled or the path that has not been traveled, or on a Dharma that is different from the two? Just as it was said before, where does walking refer to, is it on the path that has been traveled or the path that has not been traveled? Because on that, the activity of walking has passed, and the activity of walking has not yet begun, so there is no walking. Because there is no meditation other than the traveled and the untraveled, so there is no walking on that either, just as it is said, here too, where is the movement of the characteristic of walking? Is it on the path that has been traveled or the path that has not been traveled? Or is it on a Dharma that is different from the two, the path of meditation that is neither traveled nor untraveled? If someone asks this, it will become the same situation of debate and examination. How is it? It is said that the fault has already been stated on that. On that, there is walking on the path that has been traveled and the path that has not been traveled, because on that, the activity of walking has passed, and the activity of walking has not yet begun, so there is no walking on that. Because there is no meditation other than the traveled and the untraveled, so there is no walking on that either, these refutations should be combined. Or, on walking

Regarding the statement, "How can there be an agent of going?", it is because there is no inference that demonstrates the existence of a truly existent goer. It means that not only is it not established that there is a goer because the act of stepping is not the path, and because there is the same fault of refuting and examining it, but it also shows that because there is no inference that demonstrates the existence of a truly existent goer, it is not established that there is a goer. This is how it is shown: If your inferences could show and establish to me that there is a truly existent goer, then the act of stepping would also logically exist. If the act of stepping is established, then it is also reasonable to say that it has the nature of movement. However, because you do not have an inference that demonstrates the existence of a truly existent goer, there is no goer. Therefore, the act of stepping, which is without a goer and separate from a goer, is also not established. Therefore, it shows that it is not established that the act of stepping has a goer. Therefore, it is said, "When there is no goer, the act of stepping is not established." Because you do not have an inference that demonstrates the existence of a truly existent goer, there is no goer. When the act of stepping without a goer is not established, it should be connected to the statement, "How can there be an agent of going in the act of stepping?" Regarding the statement, "Because it is similar to tethering a horse," it is also considered in this way, meaning that not only is it not established that it has a goer because the act of stepping is the path, and because there is the same fault of refuting and examining it, and because there is no inference that demonstrates the existence of a truly existent goer, but the teacher also considers that because it is similar to tethering a horse, a goer is also not established. This is how it is shown: For example, if someone asks someone, "Whose is this horse that is tethered?", and that person says, "Whose is this horse?", and if they ask, "Whose is this horse?", and that person says, "Whose is this tethering of the horse?", in this way, neither the nature of the horse is clearly distinguished, nor is the nature of the horse's owner clearly distinguished. Therefore, just as it cannot be determined that this horse is his, it is the same here.
