Therefore, for the Madhyamikas, saying "from the ultimate point of view, they arise from those" is not established. If it is said from the conventional point of view, then it becomes self-contradictory, because the phrase "arising from those," and the nature of the conventional is that it does not arise without being, therefore it proves that self-nature does not exist in the ultimate truth, so it becomes a contradictory meaning. Here, starting from the phrase "fabricating the meaning refuted by others and saying," it means that in this case, other proponents of arising, previously the Madhyamikas refuted that there is no example of those who advocate arising, admitted that meaning of refutation, and then advocated arising again, so it is said. If it is said that even if it has been shown that the result does not arise from conditions, so there is no analogy, but because the result does not want the self-nature of the result, so it has not been prevented, others can also say, this sentence shows this: if the result, such as vases and eyes, etc., does not arise from conditions, such as clay and glitter, etc., so there is no example. Even if you Madhyamikas have shown that our analogy does not exist, but the result of vases and eyes, etc., because it exists without abandoning the self-nature of the result, so that result has not been prevented. Because we have the self-nature of the result, therefore we can also prove in other ways that the conditions of the result exist. Therefore, in the ultimate truth, the conditions of the internal sources (Sanskrit: āyatana) are only existent, because they are the result. For example, like sprouts, etc. Having said this sentence, here the phrase "of the internal sources" is the subject, that is, of the internal sources such as eyes. The phrase "the conditions are only existent" is the dharma to be proven, that is, for the subject of the internal sources, the dharma to be proven is those conditions, such as special things like glitter, etc., which are only existent in the ultimate truth. Because it is the result, this sentence is the reason, that is, whatever is the result, there must be conditions, in order to prove this. For example, like sprouts, etc.

This is like applying the simile of "like the earth." For example, sprouts and so on are fruits, therefore their conditions are truly existent in the ultimate sense. Similarly, the internal sources of arising are also fruits, therefore their conditions are also truly existent in the ultimate sense, they say. In response to what they say, the commentary itself explains: "A fruit arising from a non-cause is not existent," and so on. What is said here is that the explanation refutes the inference of those who assert arising, refuting it with two verses of the root text, which is a concluding statement. "A fruit arising from a non-cause is not existent" means that a fruit arising from a non-cause, transformed from a non-cause, or of the nature of a non-cause, is a fruit arising from no cause. Such a thing does not exist even in conventional terms, let alone in the ultimate sense. Therefore, your reason, "because it is a fruit," is not established. To demonstrate this very point, it is said: If a fruit transformed from a non-cause cannot be understood even in conventional terms, what need is there to mention the ultimate sense? For example, fruits transformed from non-causes such as seeds and non-causes such as sprouts, such as sprouts and eyes, arise from no cause. Therefore, if it cannot be understood or grasped as existent even in conventional terms, what need is there to mention understanding that a fruit arises from no cause and being able to grasp it in the ultimate sense? Because it is not possible, therefore, your reason, "because it is a fruit," is not established, and therefore the conditions of the internal sources of arising are not existent in the ultimate sense. What is said here is said by those who assert arising in order to prove that self-nature exists. If, in the ultimate sense, conditions are empty of the nature of conditions, then it is admitted that conditions are not empty of the nature of non-conditions, and therefore the non-condition is established, and thus the desired conclusion is established.

Those who assert origination say: If that is the case, if from the ultimate point of view, causes such as fire and seeds, etc., do not arise from themselves, so they are empty of the nature of causality. Then, you Madhyamikas acknowledge that causes such as fire and seeds, etc., are not empty of the nature of non-causality, therefore, the nature of non-causality is established, so our wish is fulfilled. What is it that we, who follow the three pitakas, need to establish? It is the existence of inherent existence. And that is the nature of non-causality. You have established from the ultimate point of view that causes are empty of the nature of causality, so you acknowledge that causes are not empty of the nature of non-causality. Therefore, the nature of non-causality is established, so our wish, the existence of inherent existence, is fulfilled. That is what they say. To answer what they say, the commentary here says: "That is not good," etc. Saying "That is not good" means that your establishment cannot establish the existence of inherent existence. Why is that? Because what we say as "non-causality" only shows the negation of the nature of causality, in order to fully grasp the negation of the meaning of non-existence. It does not show the nature of non-causality. Therefore, in this regard, what we Madhyamikas say as "non-causality" only shows the negation of the nature of causality, but it does not show the nature of non-causality. Why is that? In order to fully grasp the negation of the meaning of non-existence. In this Madhyamika treatise, in all cases, the negation of "is not" should be regarded as the meaning of negating non-existence, because negation is the main thing. Like this, by negating the net of all conceptualizations, one can attain the non-conceptual wisdom that is in accordance with all knowable objects. If the negation of "is not" is fully understood, then establishment is the main thing. By establishing that phenomena are unborn, one can establish the absence of birth.
