Just as fruits, sprouts, and other previously non-existent things do not arise, so too, ultimately, from causal seeds and the like, fruits, sprouts, and other previously non-existent things definitely do not arise. In order to clarify the knowledge that makes clear the meaning of flawed words, for example, if sound is permanent, then why is a pot not permanent? Thus it is said. When the Samkhya says that sound is permanent, the Vaisheshika says, if sound is permanent because it is produced, then why is a pot, which is also produced, not permanent? Because this would become a flawed statement with room for other criticisms from the opponent, that is not acceptable. If one speaks in that way, what kind of meaning will be understood? Therefore, sound is impermanent because it is produced, like a pot, that meaning will be understood. The Samkhya says that sound is permanent, and because that is a flawed statement, the Vaisheshika says to him, if sound is permanent because it is produced, then why is a pot, which is also produced, not permanent? If one speaks in that way, what kind of meaning will be understood? Sound is impermanent because it is produced, like a pot, that meaning will be understood. Similarly, here too, if it is non-existent, yet it can arise from those causes, then why should a result not arise from non-causes? Because that is a flawed statement, it is not acceptable. If one reverses that, what kind of meaning will be understood? Just as fruits, sprouts, and other previously non-existent things do not arise from non-causes such as similar causes, so too, ultimately, fruits, sprouts, and other previously non-existent things do not arise from causal seeds and the like, that meaning will be understood. In order to explain that very meaning, therefore, here the words to be applied are: ultimately, it is unreasonable for it to arise from seeds and the like that are empty of sprouts, because it is a result, like yogurt. Here too, ultimately, from seeds and the like that are empty of sprouts, this is the subject, and it is unreasonable for it to arise, this is the property to be established, because it is a result.

The term "therefore" is the dharma of establishment. For example, the term "like yogurt" is used as a metaphor. For example, yogurt is a fruit, so it should not arise from empty causes, such as grains. Similarly, a sprout is also a fruit, so it should not arise from empty causes, such as grains. Therefore, the so-called "the fault of what has been said is not absent" means that, according to the reasoning shown above, your reason for establishing the existence of causes, you who assert production, is: There are four causes, namely the cause and, the object, the immediately preceding condition, and the dominant condition are also the same, and the fifth cause does not exist. Regarding what has been said, I think that in terms of ultimate truth, it is not established, and in terms of conventional truth, it is self-contradictory. Therefore, the fault of what has been said is not absent. The term "said here" means that even though the causes have been refuted, those who assert production still speak here in order to establish the existence of causes. Therefore, they say: All the causes of internal objects should be held to exist only in ultimate truth, because they arise from those causes, like a pot. Here, the so-called "all of the internal objects" is the subject, referring to internal objects, such as the eye. The so-called "causes should be held to exist only in ultimate truth" is the dharma to be established, referring to causes, such as heat, which should be held to exist only in ultimate truth. For the subject, namely internal objects, such as the eye, the dharma to be established is that causes, such as heat, these special things, should be established only as existing in ultimate truth. The so-called "because they arise from those" is the dharma of establishment, the word "from those" refers to arising from causes, such as semen and blood. For example, the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, these internal sense bases, arise from causes, such as semen and blood. The so-called "like a pot" is used as a metaphor. For example, a pot arises from causes, such as clay, therefore the cause of the pot is clay.
