Or, "Thus" means that, just as the Tathāgata Dīpaṃkara and others caused the infinite realms of sentient beings who possess fortune to be freed from suffering and pass into nirvāṇa. "Gone" means that this Bhagavan has also passed into nirvāṇa, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means that, having abandoned the obscurations of karma, the obscurations of afflictions, and the obscurations of knowledge, it is like other non-Buddhists cannot go. "Gone" means that he has passed into nirvāṇa, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means that, having abandoned the obscurations of karma, the obscurations of afflictions, and the obscurations of knowledge, it is like not being born under the power of karma and afflictions, and there is no obstruction of wisdom in relation to what is to be known. "Gone" means that he has passed into nirvāṇa, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means that, having abandoned the obscurations of karma, afflictions, and knowledge, and also abandoned all conceptualizations and elaborations, it is like not producing karma, afflictions, and the obscurations of knowledge, and conceptualizations and elaborations do not arise. "Gone" means that he has passed into nirvāṇa, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means suchness. "Gone" means obtaining without obtaining, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means suchness. "Gone" means realization, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means suchness. "Gone" means speaking, therefore he is called Tathāgata. For example, proclaiming on the ground is like calling it proclaiming on the ground. Or, "Thus" means that, having understood all phenomena of the world and beyond, and the two truths of conventional and ultimate, it is thus in accordance with the nature of the object and the non-object. "Gone" means speaking, therefore he is called Tathāgata. Or, "Thus" means grasping at self, grasping at what belongs to self, and obscurations.

I completely eradicate all the nets of suffering in samsara arising from the causes of conceptualization and all elaborations, and accomplish without remainder the inconceivable and rare, unsurpassed treasure of inexhaustible precious qualities. Just as the Bhagavan, until samsara is empty, in all the immeasurable realms of the world that are endowed with fortune, without the effort of conceptualization, but by the force of past aspirations, abides in the abode of Tushita, and descends, enters the womb, dwells in the womb, is born, plays as a youth, attends upon the retinue of consorts, renounces, practices austerities, goes to the heart of enlightenment, subdues the Maras, manifestly awakens, turns the wheel of Dharma, enters into great nirvana, and so forth, engages in immeasurable deeds, it is thus. The term "Gone Beyond" refers to having attained the nirvana of the Dharmakaya, which is without birth or cessation, therefore it is called Tathagata. Or, as the Bhagavan himself said in the Sutra of the Wheel of the Irreversible, "As children conceptualize, thus enlightenment is not attained, because all dharmas are without attainment, therefore it is called Tathagata." Such is the definitive statement. In order to generate courage in timid beings, a specific explanation of the term Tathagata has been made, but extensive explanation is not necessary. What then is the cause for obtaining the ground of superior pure intention? Therefore, the "Conduct of the Tathagata" is spoken of. Among these, "Tathagata" means that which is thoroughly taught by the Tathagata, or because it is the Tathagata, it is called "Tathagata." "Conduct" means that which is thoroughly taught by the Tathagata, or whatever is the Tathagata's, that itself is conduct, that by which all dharmas are led to be without object, or that by which the meaning is led into the continuum of others. Or, that by which one is liberated from the prison of samsaric existence, and all wishes are completely fulfilled, thereby accumulating immeasurable merit and wisdom.
