Because it has not obtained its own nature, because it is empty of essence like an illusion. Therefore, it is said as follows: Of things that have no self-nature, for what reason do they exist? Existence itself is not existent. The "here" mentioned here refers to this Madhyamaka treatise. The phrase "our side" refers to the Madhyamaka view. The phrase "showing no birth in the ultimate sense" means that in the ultimate sense, no birth is shown and established by a vast inference. The phrase "things have not obtained their own nature" means that by showing no birth, any things that have not obtained the nature of establishing their own essence, those things are things that have not obtained their own nature. The phrase "empty of essence like an illusion" means that, for example, the image of a woman conjured by a magician, although it appears, that image does not have the essence of a woman, just as all internal things are empty of essence in every way. Therefore, it is said as follows: Of things that have no self-nature, the phrase "things that have no self-nature" refers to things that are empty of essence. For what reason do they exist? Existence itself is not existent. The phrase "existence itself is not existent" means that the existence of essence itself is not existent. Not only in the ultimate sense, but also in the conventional sense, even if the cause exists to some extent, it is not admitted that the result will arise. "Because this exists, this arises," that statement is not reasonable. Therefore, that fault of yours follows you. Regarding this verse, the phrase "not only in the ultimate sense" means not only is there no birth in the ultimate sense, but it is also a summary of what is said. The phrase "how it is also in the conventional sense" means that there is also no birth in the conventional sense. Why is there also no birth in the conventional sense? Even if the cause exists to some extent, it is not admitted that the result will arise. Even if there are only causes such as seeds and eyes, if there are no other conditions, the results such as sprouts and consciousness will not arise from those causes. For example, farmers and others only have impure seeds

Because it is not desired that sprouts arise from that (ignorance). Therefore, it is not reasonable to say, "Because this exists, this arises." This is said, meaning that it cannot be said, "Because this exists, this arises; because this has arisen, this arises," this is its conclusion. Therefore, the fault of the reason will follow you, because the dominant condition is also not established. The reason for showing the conditions to you. There are four conditions: cause, object, immediately preceding, and the dominant condition as well. There is no fifth condition. This means that the fault of not being established will follow you. When those who show that those exist, because they are conventionally accepted as such. For example, Nirvana is peaceful, like that. If someone says that, this is when one's own school shows that those conditions exist, they refute the Madhyamikas by saying this: Because the Madhyamikas conventionally accept that these four conditions exist, therefore, in the ultimate truth, these four conditions should also exist. For example, conventionally accepting that Nirvana is peaceful, then it should also exist in the ultimate truth, like that. Among them, "If someone" refers to one's own school. "Those exist" refers to those conditions existing. "When showing" means when only showing that the four conditions, starting from the cause, exist in the ultimate truth. When those show that the four conditions, starting from the cause, exist in the ultimate truth, they refute the Madhyamikas by saying this: Because the Madhyamikas conventionally accept it as such, therefore, in the ultimate truth, these four conditions should also exist. For example, Nirvana is peaceful, like that, this is just a metaphor. For example, the Madhyamikas conventionally accept that Nirvana is peaceful, then it is also peaceful in the ultimate truth. Similarly, because the Madhyamikas conventionally accept that the conditions exist as such, therefore, in the ultimate truth, the conditions should also exist as such. That's what they say. In order to answer what they say, here the commentator himself said: The fault of those examples is the same as before.
