If it is said that there is no space, it means that apart from the moment of immediate cessation, the other past moments are without interval. Therefore, cessation is universal. Just like the moment of consciousness, the uninterrupted moment of consciousness is not an obstruction (as) the immediately preceding condition, which is unreasonable. If it is said that there is no fault because the immediately preceding condition is established, it means that, just like because of cessation, consciousness has ceased for a long time, or like form, it will not become a hindrance that can be analogized. This is a summary statement. The answer to this is, because non-form does not abide in a place, this is to say that for those who have form, who possess form, it is reasonable to open up space, for example, after clearing a vase, there will be space for a rope. However, for those who are non-form, who do not possess form, such as mind and mental factors, it is unreasonable to open up space. Because under the determination of the respective functions of cause and condition, things are ceasing while they are being produced, so opening up space is beneficial. Therefore, the statement that "the immediately preceding condition is established, so there is no fault" cannot be used as an answer. Furthermore, "The six that have just passed away, whichever consciousness is, that is the mind" means that because the mind that has just ceased is the immediately preceding condition, it cannot be used as an answer. This is to say that, in various schools of thought, the six consciousnesses of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, believe that the consciousness that has just passed away is the mind. Therefore, the mind that has just ceased is the immediately preceding condition. Because the other past moments are without interval, the statement that "the immediately preceding condition is established, so there is no fault" cannot be used as an answer either. Even if one thinks that cessation is the immediately preceding condition, some say that because the time is the same, it cannot be the immediately preceding condition. It means that even if some people think that cessation opens up space, so it is the immediately preceding condition, but for those who make explanations, including some Madhyamikas, they say that the cessation they are talking about refers to what is happening now, therefore, it will lead to the cause and effect both being at the same time.
