If asked, "Wasn't it said that there are six aggregates of consciousness?" The answer is: It was said, "Having an object," etc., which is for the purpose of establishing the truth of convention. Indeed, according to the Abhidharma, it has been said that the six aggregates of consciousness have objects. However, that was said in order to definitively establish and fully show the truth of convention, and it is not said that it has an object in the ultimate truth. If asked, "How is it that it is said to have an object in order to establish the truth of convention?" Therefore, it is said: It arises from the object, because the appearance arises there, it is said to have an object, but it is not related to one time only, like someone who has wealth. It is taught thus: When consciousness arises with a yellow and blue object, etc., because that consciousness also arises with the appearance of blue and yellow, etc., for the sake of blue and yellow, etc., it is said to have an object. It is not said to have an object because the wealth and the wealthy are related to one time only, like Deva having wealth. Therefore, saying that it has an object is imputed from what is not true in convention, because it is not at the same time. Some answer this by saying: Therefore, if the Dharma has no object, it is because there is no object in the ultimate truth. This means that there is no objectifying consciousness in the ultimate truth. If someone says: If consciousness does not arise, then it is not reasonable to negate its objectifier. Some answer this by saying: Because it is unreasonable to fully examine the object itself that is not an objectifier. This means that some who say that it arises also think that the object, such as form, which is not the objectifier of consciousness, exists, which is also unreasonable. This is to prevent that wrong examination. Therefore, since that object itself is unreasonable, how can there be an object? Here, form, etc., are the object.

English

It is only without a place, which is the meaning of the word. The meaning of the phrase is that word. In order to clarify that meaning, for example, it is like saying how can there be realization in committing the five heinous crimes, which is citing evidence. What does this show? Just as there can be no true realization in committing the five heinous crimes, so too, there can be no object here. Even so, that very reason is unestablished and contradictory. If one wants to establish a reason in order to show the cause in the ultimate truth, then whichever one it is, it is the meaning of unestablished. However, in order to establish both, if one wants to establish a reason in order to show the cause in the conventional truth, then the cause shown in the conventional truth is without self-nature in the ultimate truth. And, because there is a relationship of not arising without it, therefore, here, you establish no self-nature, which is the very meaning that contradicts your own belief in having self-nature. For others, the same analysis is applied to apply refutation, that is, other Abhidharma masters say to the Madhyamikas that even for things that are previously arising, there is no object, because they are arising, like form. For the established establishment, it is refuted in an unreasonable way, and with the same analysis, refutation is applied with the illusion of a rational person. Form has no object, because it belongs to the aggregate of form. What is that? The scriptures also say, what are the dharmas without an object? They are form and nirvana. Therefore, the reason is that the Abhidharma masters' example to the Madhyamikas, "like form," is a word that is permissible to establish. You Madhyamikas say that form has no object, because it belongs to the aggregate of form, that is the reason. Why is it the reason? Because in the Abhidharma scriptures it also says, what are the dharmas without an object? They are form and nirvana. Therefore, form itself has no object, that is true. Mind

Whatever asserts that earth and mental factors do not have an object, then what are the phenomena that have an object? For example, mind and mental factors. If someone says that it is unreasonable to accept this, then this is the statement of the Vaibhashikas to refute the Madhyamika's argument that mind and mental factors do not have an object. Madhyamikas, whatever you assert that mind and mental factors do not have an object is unreasonable. Why is it unreasonable? Because in the Abhidharma scriptures it also says: What are the phenomena that have an object? For example, mind and mental factors. Moreover, you are also Buddhists, so you have already accepted this scripture. Therefore, this will harm your assertion of having no object. Therefore, it is unreasonable to argue that mind and mental factors do not have an object. They say this. In order to answer what they said, here the commentary says: That is not reasonable, because it is to establish the example. Thus it is said. It shows like this: Your form is without an object, because it belongs to the aggregate of form. Whatever is said, and the scripture is quoted saying: What are the phenomena without an object? Form and Nirvana. Because it says so, therefore we also argue that what is arising does not have an object, because it is arising, just like form. In order to prove that the arising consciousness does not have an object, we took the example from form. In order to establish this example, we have established the example, so your argument is unreasonable. It is shown like this. If someone says that the form that arises from the four elements, because it is form, it is true that it does not have an object. But the arising consciousness that does not arise from the four elements, because it is arising, has an object. For example, mind and mental factors that do not arise from the four elements, because they are arising, are the objects to be taken, just like not arising from the four elements.
