For felt, coarse cloth, causes, threads, and grass, etc., they should also be combined as appropriate. The summarized meaning here is that, in reality, the eye, form, appearance, space, and attention are not the causes of eye consciousness, because eye consciousness cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent, like a pot. Just as a pot is being produced, so it is not non-existent, but because it has not been produced, it is not existent, therefore it cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent. The eye, etc., are not the causes of the pot, and similarly, eye consciousness cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent, therefore it will not become the cause of eye consciousness. Similarly, in reality, seeds, etc., are also not the causes of sprouts, because sprouts cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent. For example, like a pot, felt, and coarse cloth other than that. Just as a pot, felt, and coarse cloth are being produced, so they are not non-existent, but because they have not been produced, they are not existent, therefore they cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent. Seeds, etc., are not the causes of the pot, felt, and coarse cloth, and similarly, sprouts cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent, therefore seeds, etc., will not become the causes of sprouts. This is not an answer, the Sautrāntikas say: For those who say that the fruit is existent or non-existent, for the meaning of non-existence or existence, The cause is not permissible. If that is true, then for those of us who think that the fruit cannot be said to be either existent or non-existent, that is not permissible, that is not an answer, because that is not the truth. If others refute the Madhyamikas, saying that it contradicts your tenets, your scriptures say: It is not in the eye and form, nor is it between the two, where does it transform, it is not existent nor non-existent. This shows that the production of eye consciousness is existent, but you say that the production of eye consciousness is non-existent, this contradicts the tenets, this is the previous view, from them...

In response to that, the commentator here says that the arising of things that are separate from the nature of being, such as existing in name, is also established. It is stated thus: In the conventional, arising from causes and conditions, etc., the arising of all things that are not to be spoken of as being existent or non-existent is also established. But in the ultimate, it is not established, so there is no contradiction with the extreme of establishment. If someone also says that because the dualists admit the causes and conditions of the fruit being existent and non-existent, there is no fault as stated. This means that the naked wanderers, the dualists, say: In our doctrine, the fruit is neither existent nor non-existent, so we are dualists. Therefore, "For the meaning of non-existence or existence, a condition is not reasonable." That is reasonable for those who say the fruit is existent, those who say the fruit is non-existent, and those who say neither. It is not reasonable for our dualist side, because we dualists say the fruit is existent and non-existent, so the conditions are reasonable, therefore the fruit arises from the conditions. To that, the word "if also" is connected to the meaning of "suppose they say so again." "Dualists" refers to the naked wanderers, those who neither completely say the fruit is non-existent nor completely say the fruit is existent, are called "dualists." "Because they admit the causes and conditions of the fruit being existent and non-existent" means it is stated thus: Because a ring is not observed in gold, therefore the fruit is not existent; because there is gold in the ring, therefore the fruit is not non-existent. Therefore, they admit that both the existence and non-existence of the fruit are conditions. "There is no fault as stated" means that therefore the Madhyamika says: "For the meaning of non-existence or existence, a condition is not reasonable." The fault that was said is not on our side. As a response to that saying, the commentator here says that those are also the side
