The births are only those that produce the inner sense bases, because they are causes. For example, just as grains and the like produce sprouts, what is the meaning of this? Although it is not established that those causes have a function, and there is no birth without a function, the causes themselves exist, so it is only born from causes. Having thought like this, it is again established by another means. Here, "those causes" are the subject, namely the causes of the eyes and so on, karma, afflictions, and dullness, and so on. "Only those that produce the inner sense bases" is the predicate to be established, namely those causes, the subject, only produce the result of the inner sense bases such as the eyes, which is the difference of the predicate to be established. "Because they are causes" is the reason to be established, namely, although it is not established that they have a function, because they are causes, they are only born from causes, so it is thought. "For example, just as grains and the like produce sprouts" is the example to be applied, just as grains and the like also produce sprouts because they are causes, so karma, afflictions, and dullness and so on also only produce the inner sense bases such as the eyes because they are causes. Having thus briefly shown the agreement, now, in order to show the disagreement, if it is not a producer, then it has no cause, like a rabbit's horn, so it is said. Thus it is shown that the rabbit's horn is non-existent, so it has no cause. Because there is no cause, it is also not a producer. Dullness and so on are not without cause, because they exist, therefore they produce the inner sense bases.
