Whatever is said about the meaning of the phrase "there is no cause," there is no refutation for us, because we do not accept that causes such as grains are causes before the fruit sprout arises. When the fruit arises, we consider them to be causes, therefore your refutation does not harm us. After saying this, in order to answer that statement, it is explained here that it is not without harm, and so on. The Sutra school says that saying that the refutation does not harm my sect is not without harm, because if there are two negations, the meaning of the occasion can be understood, like this, that is only a summary of harm to your sect. How is it? Because here the causes are shown to be non-causes before the fruit arises, so when the fruit arises, the author of the treatise also considers it to be shown as non-causes. Because you have shown here that causes such as grains are non-causes before the fruit sprout arises, so its merit is that when the fruit arises, it is also intended to show that those are non-causes. The author of the treatise shows that this shows such words: For which causes there is no causality before the fruit arises, for those causes there is also no causality when the fruit arises, the face of the treatise author Nagarjuna is shown in that way, and it is also considered to be established in that way. Therefore, how is it? In the ultimate sense, grains and so on are not the nature of cause when the sprout arises, because it cannot be said to be that or other. For example, just like the previous moment. Here it is also said that grains and so on are, this is the subject. When the sprout arises, it is not the nature of cause, this is the dharma to be established. Because it cannot be said to be that or other, this is the dharma of establishment. For example, just like the previous moment.

This should be combined with the example of "as it is itself." Thus it is said that the seeds, etc., as conceived by the Sautrāntikas, are not truly the nature of the cause at the time of the sprout's arising. Like this, if one examines the seeds, etc., because the sprout does not appear, it cannot be said to be "that itself" and "other itself," because it cannot be said to be "that itself" like "whatever is the sprout is the seed, etc." Also, because the sprout arises from the seeds, etc., the sprout is not different from the seeds, etc., so it cannot be said to be "other itself." Because it cannot be said to be "that itself" and "other itself," this is the reason. For example, "as it is itself" in the previous moment is like the seeds, etc., in the previous moment when the fruit has not yet arisen. For example, just as the seeds, etc., in the previous moment when the fruit has not yet arisen are not the nature of the cause, so also at the time of the fruit's arising, the seeds, etc., are not the nature of the cause, this is the concluding statement. This is in relation to the point that "things do not arise from self, other, or both." Some say that this is arguing for what is already established, because the fruit and the cause cannot be said to be "that itself" and "other itself," even if they cannot be said to be, they are merely what produce the fruit. Those who say this should also be refuted in the same way. Here, "this" refers to the previously stated reason of the characteristic that the fruit and the cause cannot be said to be "that itself" and "other itself." What is this refuting? To those who, in order to prove arising in relation to those previously proven by the Madhyamikas, say that the Madhyamikas' proof is arguing for what is already established, those who say this should also be refuted in the same way. Because what the Madhyamikas previously proved is not like that, therefore it is said, "things do not arise from self, other, or both." The Madhyamikas previously, at the time of the general proposition that things do not arise, that things do not arise from self, and that they do not arise from other, and

This is the refutation of the assertion that "things do not arise from two." So, what would those who assert arising say? Therefore, those who say this, this is an argument for an established view, because neither the result nor the cause can be said to be the same or different. Even if they cannot be said to be the same or different, they are only the factors that produce the result, they say. This is explained as follows: Those who, in order to prove arising, say this to the Madhyamikas: If the result, such as eyes, etc., or sprouts, etc., and the cause, such as oil lamps, etc., or seeds, etc., are the same, then this will lead to arising from self; however, if they are different, then this will lead to arising from other. However, if the result and the cause are both the same and different, then it will definitely lead to arising from two, therefore, the assertion that "things do not arise from self, do not arise from other, and do not arise from two" is an argument for an established view. Why? Because neither the result nor the cause can be said to be the same or different. Even if they cannot be said to be the same or different, the factors such as oil lamps, etc., and seeds, etc., are only the factors that produce the results such as eyes, etc., and sprouts, etc., they say. These should also be refuted in the same way, this is explained as follows: The Sutrantikas acknowledge the factors such as oil lamps, etc., and seeds, etc., at the time of the arising of the result, but in reality, the oil lamps, etc., and seeds, etc., are not the nature of the factors at the time of the arising of eyes, etc., and sprouts, because they cannot be said to be the same or different. For example, just like the previous moment, through this example, these should also be refuted in the same way. "For those who assert arising, a counter-argument should also be made," this is to say that even if they are refuted in this way, those who assert arising still, in order to prove arising, insist that the factors are only the factors that produce the result, and still maintain the stance of a refuter. In reality, their...
