It is established. Like this, for any unestablished and doubtful words, because it needs to rely on further establishment, it has such characteristics. Therefore, the nature of having function in the ultimate sense is the only existence for seeds and so on, because it is acknowledged in the conventional sense. Whatever is acknowledged in the conventional sense, it is also the same in the ultimate sense, just like a rabbit has no horns. Here also, seeds and so on, this is called the subject, the nature of having function in the ultimate sense is the only existence, this is called the proposition to be established. Because it is acknowledged in the conventional sense, this is called the reason for establishment. Whatever is acknowledged in the conventional sense, it is also the same in the ultimate sense, this is called the close combination. For example, a rabbit has no horns, this is combined as a metaphor. For example, you Madhyamikas also acknowledge that a rabbit has no horns does not exist in the conventional sense, and does not exist in the ultimate sense, just like you Madhyamikas acknowledge that seeds and so on have the nature of having function in the conventional sense, whatever is acknowledged in the conventional sense, it is also the same in the ultimate sense, therefore the nature of having function in the ultimate sense is the only existence for seeds and so on. You also acknowledge that seeds and so on have the nature of having function in the conventional sense, therefore the metaphor is established, so the tenet is established. Saying this indicates that since seeds and so on have the nature of having function in the conventional sense, then it also exists in the ultimate sense, therefore the metaphor of seeds and so on having function is established, then eyes and so on will also have the function of producing eye consciousness and so on in the ultimate sense. They say so. In response to their saying so, the commentator himself said, what is said here, does having function exist or not? and so on. Among them, what is said here refers to the establishment of seeds and so on having the nature of having function, the last verse of the root spoken by the Acharya can refute it, this is the concluding remark. Does having function exist or not? refers to whether those things like seeds and so on have function?

It should be asked, "Is it so? Or is it not so?" When saying "It is not so," saying "It is so" is a word used to continue the conversation after asking back in that way. Previously, it was said, "Not having function, not being a condition." At the end of what was said, when denying with "It is not so," if asked, "Is having function so? Or is it not so?" then after "It is not so," it is added, and here also it is to establish that "the conditions do not have function." Even so, it cannot be established that the conditions have function, that is, through this inference, it cannot be established that grains, etc., as examples, have the dharma to be established. Why is that? Just as in conventional terms, it cannot be established that a rabbit's horn has function. This is to say that whatever establishes that grains, etc., have function, in conventional terms, a rabbit's horn does not exist. Because a rabbit's horn does not have function, the example is empty of what is to be established. The statement, "Because in ultimate truth, a rabbit's horn is not established as non-existent," means that it is not only empty of what is to be established, but also empty of what establishes. Because just as I consider a rabbit's horn to be non-existent in name, I do not consider a rabbit's horn to be non-existent in ultimate truth. Therefore, in ultimate truth, it is free from discrimination of existence and non-existence, etc. As the holy *Ratnakuta Sutra* says, "Light Protector, saying 'exists' is one extreme, saying 'does not exist' is also two extremes." It is like this. If there is birth, four kinds of discriminations of non-existence will arise: relative to what is born, for the state of a lump of clay, it shows that it did not exist before. Relative to this, for the state of a tile, it is called non-existent after destruction. Relative to this, for the absence of wool on a vase and the absence of a vase on wool, it is called mutually non-existent. A vase appears to arise, but a rabbit's horn, etc., do not appear to arise, and it is called completely non-existent. This is also only in relation to what has birth. For things in ultimate truth, all things are unborn, then there is no previously non-existent and after destruction
