In response to the statement "now," the teacher himself stated here: "Without conditions, there is no action." This means that there is no action that is not distinguished by being endowed with conditions. Because, like before, it would become the very fault just mentioned. Therefore, this indicates that for those who assert existence, that argument is refuted here by the second root verse of the composition. Here, if it is said that because of the action of the conditions, therefore there is action, then if there are no conditions such as a stove, and there is no cause, how can there be the action of cooking? Therefore, there is no action that is not distinguished by being endowed with conditions. Why? Because it would become the very fault just mentioned, like before. Because of the previous arguments, we do not acknowledge the action of cooking rice as ultimately true, so the opponent's argument would become the fault of an incomplete example, because it would become the very fault mentioned earlier. End of the eighteenth chapter. Others have stated another meaning of the verses, that is: "Action is not endowed with conditions, without conditions there is no action." For the explanation of the meaning of those two verses, the commentator, teacher Guṇamati, says this, connecting it as another statement. Because on any side, the action that arises becomes the nature of consciousness, therefore, it is said, "Action is not endowed with conditions." That is, the teacher Guṇamati explains it in this way: on any side, for those who assert existence, the action of producing consciousness is what becomes the nature of consciousness. The action that arises becomes the nature of consciousness, when the conditions of the eye, form, light, space, and attention are complete, it will arise, therefore, in order to refute the view of those who acknowledge that things exist, the teacher said, "Action is not endowed with conditions." Why is action not endowed with conditions? Therefore, the action of producing consciousness

Because the action is non-existent just like consciousness. Because for something that doesn't exist, the cause of having a related meaning is also unreasonable, it is said. Thus it is shown: On whatever side the action of generating consciousness has become the nature of consciousness, on that side the action of generating consciousness itself is consciousness. Therefore, as long as consciousness has not arisen and does not exist, then the action of generating consciousness has also not arisen and does not exist. Because for a non-existent action, the cause of having a related meaning is also unreasonable, so the action is not related to the cause. If the action exists, then the cause of having a related meaning is also possible, just like saying that if Lhasin exists, he has wealth. Because the action does not exist, the cause of having a related meaning is also unreasonable, therefore the meaning of the reason "because it is related to the cause" is not established. This is temporarily the explanation of the first root. For whatever side, it is not becoming the nature, but the self-nature is established, therefore, the action unrelated to the cause does not exist. It is said. For this, the teacher Guṇamati explains it like this: For the one who speaks of arising, on whatever side the action of generating consciousness is, that is not the nature of consciousness, the action of generating consciousness is different from consciousness, the self-nature is established, unrelated to the cause, therefore it generates consciousness, so the arising of things exists. In order to refute any party that acknowledges this view, the teacher said: The action unrelated to the cause does not exist. Why does the action unrelated to the cause not exist? Therefore, unrelated to the cause, because it does not exist itself, it is said. Thus it is shown: On whatever side the action of generating consciousness is not the nature of consciousness, the self-nature is established, related to the cause, on that side the action of generating consciousness does not exist itself because it is unrelated to the cause. The action unrelated to the cause does not exist, because here, the nature of the action is transformed into action by the causes, therefore the nature of the action is called related to the cause.
