It should be combined with "the previously stated school of thought." Things arise from self, other, and so on. Saying, "What use is this action to us?" means that those who assert production, namely the abbot Buddhapālita, say, "Other proponents of production say that external and internal sources of arising arise from self, other, both, and without cause. What use is this investigation to us? There is no need." This is their conclusion. We think like this: for example, the eye and so on are the causes and conditions for the arising of eye consciousness. That is to say, the causes of eye, form, light, space, and attention are the causes and conditions for the action of producing the fruit of eye consciousness. How is that? It is like the action of cooking rice and so on. For example, rice, water, rice porridge, fire, and firewood are the causes and conditions for the action of cooking rice, just as the causes and conditions of the eye and so on are the causes and conditions for the action of truly producing eye consciousness. "Showing the production of things" means that other proponents of production show and establish the production of things in that way. In order to refute it, it is said, "Action is not related to causes." It is explained that because the action of producing consciousness is unreasonable when consciousness has already arisen, has not arisen, and is arising. This is the latter school of thought of the abbot Buddhapālita himself. Among them, "in order to refute it" means in order to refute the former school of thought of the production of things shown by other proponents of production. It is said, "Action is not related to causes." It should be combined with "This is what the teacher said." Because the action of producing consciousness is unreasonable when consciousness has already arisen, has not arisen, and is arising, this shows that: for consciousness that has already arisen, there is no action, because the fruit has already arisen. For consciousness that has not arisen, there is also no action, because there are no causes and conditions. "Arising time" refers to the time of arising.

It is also the same. Because there is no production, there is also no action. This is not reasonable, because it is only a commitment to the former and latter aspects. The commentator himself says that the explanation of the venerable Buddhapālita is unreasonable, which is to prove this point. Among them, "This is not reasonable" means that the explanation of the venerable Buddhapālita is unreasonable, which is a commitment. Why is it unreasonable? Because it is only a commitment to the former and latter aspects. It is said here that others who advocate production say that things are produced from me and him, etc. What effect does this have on us? For example, the conditions such as the eye are the cause of the production of eye consciousness, just as the winnowing fan is a tool for cooking. Therefore, the former side showing the production of things, and the venerable Buddhapālita himself, in order to deny it, said that the action of producing consciousness is unreasonable when consciousness has been produced, has not been produced, and is being produced. Therefore, the latter side of the explanation, both of these are only words of commitment, and there is no other reasonable reason. Therefore, it is impossible to refute the other party's point of view, and it is also impossible to establish one's own point of view. The so-called "distorting the meaning of refutation" here means that those who advocate production also said it here. The so-called "distorting the meaning of refutation" means that others who previously advocated production said that the conditions are not only the cause of the production of results, for example, the action of producing consciousness requires the cooperation of conditions such as the eye, form, light, space, and attention to produce consciousness. We can say that it exists, because in fact the action of producing consciousness is to produce its own result, because it has the conditions, such as the action of cooking rice, which requires the cooperation of conditions such as winnowing fan, water, rice, fire, and firewood. Therefore, the previously stated inference will be damaged by the subsequent argument.
