So, what fault is there in this? Therefore, it was said, "Because there is no meaningful connection." Having said this, it was also said, "Thus, things do not arise even from causelessness." After that, it was said, "Because it would lead to everything arising from everything at all times," and so on. If that were the case, one would have previously said that there is no arising, and after that, one would say that everything arises from everything at all times. These two have no meaningful connection, so this explanation is not valid. To show an example of why this explanation is not valid due to the lack of meaningful connection, it was said, "As before." Previously, when the Elder Buddhapālita explained that things do not arise from others, he showed an example of the lack of meaningful connection, such as: "Musk, cardamom, turmeric, and amla are beneficial for plagues. There is nothing at all disgusting about prostitutes. Bamboo arrows are heavy and cautious. The moon's rays are cool in hot weather." Just as it was shown, here too, the explanation of the Elder Buddhapālita needs to be established, and even if the establishment is not refuted and is established, one would have previously said that things do not arise even from causelessness, and after that, one would say, "Because it would lead to everything arising from everything at all times," and so on. This has no meaningful connection, so this explanation is not valid. Therefore, "Thus, it is not from causelessness either" is the conclusion of showing that things do not arise from causelessness. Among them, "Thus" is the characteristic of inference as previously stated. Thus, "Thus, it is not from causelessness either" is showing that in the ultimate truth, internal and external things do not arise from causelessness and dissimilar causes, and it is established. The general statement of the four commitments has been explained. Now, the actual meaning of the general statement of the four commitments as previously stated is to be shown. Therefore, "Whatever things, wherever, arising never exists," this is to be connected separately, saying, "From the general statement of the commitments."

“Not from self, not from other, not from both, not from no cause.” Thus it is said. If asked, from self, from other, from both, from no cause, which is not? From self: Things, in any place, that are born, never exist. Thus it is said. From other: Things, in any place, that are born, never exist. Thus it is said. From both: Things, in any place, that are born, never exist. Thus it is said. From no cause: Things, in any place, that are born, never exist. Thus it is said, it should be applied separately in this way. What is meant by “any”? It means all defiled and purified things. What is meant by “any place”? It means internal and external, subtle and coarse things. What is meant by “any place”? It also refers to the limits of one's own actions and the establishment of individual continuums, that is, one's own side and the side of others. What is meant by “ever”? It means never at any time, whether it is past, future, or present, or at any time when one examines one's own or another's group. Therefore, dependent arising, such as non-arising, is established as having uncommon distinctions from non-Buddhists and others. What is meant by “Therefore, dependent arising, such as non-arising, is established as having uncommon distinctions from non-Buddhists and others”? It means that when things are analyzed in this way by reason, it is unreasonable for things to arise from self, other, both, or no cause. Therefore, dependent arising, the basis of distinction arising from the Perfection of Wisdom, is distinguished by non-arising, non-cessation, non-severance, non-permanence, non-coming, non-going, not different meaning, not same meaning, and is established as having all that is uncommon with non-Buddhists, Hearers, and Solitary Buddhas. Now, our own school says: “There are four conditions: cause, object, immediately preceding, and also the Lord.” The Teacher, in the Sutra Pitaka and the Abhidharma treatises, has taught in the doctrines of self and others, in the heavenly realms, and on the earth. This shows that we have refuted the arising that is thoroughly investigated by non-Buddhists. Now, the Hearers
