For example, just as the eyes are without obstruction and without impurity, they are perfectly suited for the identification of precious jewels such as emeralds and lapis lazuli, not for the blind and those with blurred vision. Just as this applies to those with clear minds and sight, so too, through the eye medicine of the view of emptiness, it is perfectly purified, and this applies to the wise who possess the clear eye of wisdom, not to those who are blinded by the cataract of ignorance, unable to see the self-nature of things, like those with blurred vision, who generate false discriminations towards the various phenomena of the three realms, and whose eyes of wisdom are disturbed by the impurities aroused by universal discriminations, the words of the unwise have no meaning and only cause damage to reputation. In this way, after refuting the arising from others, the content that follows is completely fulfilled. Again, for those Samkhya who claim that the effect exists prior to the cause, it is declared: "That which exists is not desired to arise, Why should that which exists arise?" It means that if that which has the characteristic of arising is arising, then that which exists does not have arising. This is a summary statement. If someone thinks that the effect exists in the cause as the nature of the seed, and it is only through various conditions that it manifests as a coarse state, then it is declared: "That which exists does not become coarse, Because it is previously non-existent and later arises." It means that even so, the effect is previously non-existent, because the coarse state is previously non-existent. For example, a small banyan seed does not have the nature of a trunk called a banyan tree, and numerous branches and twigs, therefore, it cannot be said that it is previously existent and arises later. Furthermore: "What is the coarseness of the eye? It is not made by conditions, Because it is previously non-existent like a pot, It is knowable like an eater." It means that if various conditions have the power to produce a coarse effect that was previously non-existent, then why can't the conditions of the eye, that is, the four great elements, produce things other than the eye, such as pottery? Also, for example, a person is both knowable and the subject of ability.

Now there are also, but just as it cannot do anything, so too there would be faults with the eyes, etc. If you think that you are speaking of selflessness, and you have used the example of the eater, this is because you think that you have not established an example for yourself, then it is said: The eater, etc., in the conventional, is commonly accepted. Therefore, for us, in any place, the example will not become a fault. This is because we also rely on the limbs of the body, senses, and aggregates of consciousness, and to a large extent use the name of the eater, etc., in the conventional, to commonly establish names for the realms of aggregates, elements, and sources, therefore for us, in any measure, there will not be the fault of not establishing an example for ourselves. Because we only establish measure in the conventional, not in the ultimate, because that is inexpressible. Commentary on the Heart of the Middle Way - The Blazing Intellect. Eighth Chapter. Here, some who speak of manifestation more clearly than the Samkhyas refute, for those who posit that things arise, that will become a fault, but we say that things like pots exist in clay, etc., and are only manifested by various causes, therefore for us, there will not be such a fault. To that, one should retort thus: If manifestation has no fault, then what manifests through what, and how does it manifest? If they say: For example, just as a lamp manifests a pot. Then say to them: Because there is existence but no manifestation. This is because, if a thing has already arisen and exists, then to have another existence manifest it is not reasonable. Because, if so, it is like showing what has not arisen. How can a pot that has not arisen be manifested by a lamp that has not arisen? Because a magical person who has not arisen and does not exist cannot be manifested by a sky flower, etc., which has not arisen and does not exist. Even if it is admitted that it exists, it is only explained in terms of conventional truth. Even in the conventional, a lamp can make a pot appear, as well as its wisdom or antidote.
