And mental events. What are the dharmas without an object? Form and nirvana. Thus it is said, if it is thought that mind and mental events must have an object, then it is said: Or mind and mental events, should not be accepted as truly having an object, because they are arising and being apprehended, like form and so on. If it is thought that what is arising encounters an object, then at that time, the mind and mental events that are the object are also arising. The objects, form and so on, are also arising in the same way. Regarding the similarity of arising, it is thought that mind and mental events have the cause of an object, while form and so on are not thought to have the cause of an object. What is the difference in reasoning for this? Therefore, the cause of an object that is posited is conventional truth, not ultimate truth. Or, those that have an object, because they are simultaneous, are not reasonable. It means that the collection of mind and mental events encounters the object of form and so on. If it is thought to be so, then there is no difference in time between them, like the left and right horns of a cow. Therefore, being an object and being posited as an object is not reasonable. Thus, because there is no object, what becomes the object of what? It means that it is unreasonable for anything to be the object of anything, which is the meaning of this statement. Thus, the cause of an object is also unreasonable. The immediately preceding cause is also unreasonable because there is no cessation. How so? The unborn has no cessation, because it is unborn, like space. It means that cessation depends on birth, and because there is no birth, there is also no cessation. The ceased also has no cessation, because it has ceased, like death. Just as death has no death. The unceased also has no cessation, because it is unceased, like a burning lamp at present. It means that this is the remainder of the statement that there is no cessation. If the unceased had cessation, then like a burning lamp, the ability to illuminate what is to be illuminated would also be like cessation. The one that is ceasing is also not accepted, because cessation has already been explained above. It means that the one that is ceasing is the slightly...
