Furthermore, the reason "because they are different" is also uncertain. How so? "The nature of form is not other, because there is a name, it changes uncertainly." This means that although "the nature of form" and "the body of a bubble" are not other entities, there is a different name, "the nature of form." Therefore, for the time being, regardless of whether "the nature of form" has a different name, just as form and the nature of form are not other entities, even if time and water, etc., have different names, will they not become non-other entities? Or, just as "Devadatta's field" has a different name, and the thing is also another entity, so too, land and water, etc., have different names, will there not be doubt because the thing is also different, because it is uncertain? "Because the pervasion is not established, that meaning becomes unestablished." This means that because the meaning of the pervasion "sound and consciousness are different" is not established, the meaning of that reason is not established. The meaning of the pervasion observed by the opponent is not ultimate. "Although differences such as sound are different, therefore they become mistaken." This means those reasons that show difference as other entities. "Although difference is spoken, it is definitely rejected because of contradiction." This means using words that negate the other entity and the non-other entity. The naked ascetics believe that all things are the nature of both, that is, land and water, etc., are other entities, because their characteristics and functions are different. They are also not other entities, because they have hardness, etc., and are the nature of aggregation. If they think so, then say this to them: "Both are also impossible, because of contradiction, like fire having hot and cold." This means that if land and water, etc., are other entities, then how can they not be other entities? If they are not other entities, then it contradicts the word "other entity." For example, if fire is hot, then how can it be cold? If it is cold, then how can it be hot? Just like that. Furthermore, "Rejecting the side of other and non-other, for the sake of showing

is also not good. The reason for saying this is that the refutation of the aspects of "otherness" and "non-otherness" has already been explained here. Apart from these two, is there anything else that can become the nature of both? Therefore, the nature of both is also not good. If the dualists say this: fire is also the nature of both, because it is hot for cooking and so on, and cold for those blessed by true secret mantras and so on. Therefore, fire is also the nature of both, so you have no example. To refute them, it is said: Even if it is the nature of both, the well-known aspect is taken as an example. Therefore, for others, there is no example, and it will not easily arise. This means that even if fire has the nature of both to some extent, it is only the aspect that is well-known in the world that is taken as an example, so for the dualists, we are not without an example. The nature of both is also not the ultimate truth. Why? Because it is established by dependence. Either of the two, if it has not been established before, will not be established. It is only a mental distinction. Because here, depending on cold things such as snow, fire and so on are established as the nature of heat; depending on the nature of heat such as fire, snow and so on are considered to be the nature of cold. When analyzed in this way, if either of the two, cold and heat, has not been established before, then the latter will not be established. Therefore, if the thing that is to be established by dependence is not established, then the thing that is to be established by depending on it will also not be established. Therefore, these are only thoughts in the mind, so the so-called nature of both, although convenient, is only conventional truth. These are like the distinctions of long and short. For example, if there is long, then there is short; if there is short, then there is long. If either of these two does not exist, it will not be established. Similarly, there is both self and no-self; it is both permanent and impermanent; it is both existent and non-existent, and so on. For all dualists, the way of refutation is also the same. It can be understood in this way.
