If someone asks, why is it said that the root of irrational attention is inverted thought? The answer is: because there are inversions. It is not reasonable to prove that there is desire, because it is examined like desire. That understanding is also conventional. That is to say, inversion should also be examined like desire. Is that inversion already inverted, or is it becoming inverted, or is it transforming into inversion, or is it different from inversion becoming inversion? Or are they not the same? If it is said that inversion is correct in all aspects, then it is unreasonable like mere desire. Therefore, thinking that inversion is also conventional. Furthermore, the nature of mind and mental factors, because it has been previously prohibited. With what, with that which can become attachment, the nature of attachment to attachment does not exist. That is to say, when the analysis is carried out earlier, if the nature of mind and mental factors is generally prohibited, then what is the so-called attachment that exists from nature? What attachment, what is the mind that can become attachment? Therefore, hatred and ignorance, etc., have been separately explained. That is to say, through this way of prohibiting attachment and greed, it should also be known that hatred, ignorance, and delusion, etc., are also prohibited in the same way. If someone asks: How to prohibit it? When the mind is directed towards extinction and arises, what does one want to hate with what? One does not want to hate extinction either. If it is said that hatred is arising, then what about that? If it is said that it is arising, then one does not want to hate what has not arisen. Because there is no basis, the action is not corresponding. Like this, these methods should be applied to all things. In this way, because bondage and liberation are not established, nature does not exist, and agitation does not exist. That is to say, the heretics previously said that things originally exist in the ultimate truth, because there is bondage and liberation. The reason they said is neither established nor contradictory. Because bondage and liberation are both conventional. The Samkhya school says that earth, etc., which are separated from differences such as hardness, etc., are nature, because

Because the cause of mind, which appears as an entity distinguished by water and so on, is not something different from matter. It is said that earth and so on, represented by hardness and so on, are different things from matter. The Vaiseṣika school says that because substances have the qualities of otherness and non-otherness that are different from substances, substances can also be given the names of otherness and non-otherness. Among them, earth has non-otherness from its own nature, while water and so on have the otherness of earth. In order to refute the non-otherness of these two, it is said: If earth exists in the ultimate truth, it will not be admitted that earth is not other than earth. Like wind, because it has a cause; like consciousness, because it is a thing. The meaning is that apart from hardness, there is nothing that can be called earth; if there is no earth, there is nothing that can become otherness and thus become non-otherness. This is to establish valid cognition, because all things are of the same taste in emptiness. Like consciousness, it means like a person. If we look at earth from the point of view of ultimate truth, water will not be considered different, just as earth is not different from matter that has arising. The meaning of this verse is that, for example, even if the name of earth is different from the nature of matter, it is not considered a different thing. Similarly, what otherness will water become? If someone thinks that the non-otherness of the nature of matter and the nature of earth is acceptable, because for them, there is no difference between sound and mind. Earth and water etc. are otherness, because there are also differences in sound and mind, and there are also differences in function and characteristics, so earth etc. are otherness. This is discussed: Because the sounds, minds, functions and characteristics of earth etc. are different, it is not considered that they are otherness, because they do not have the dharma to be proved. What is to be proved here is otherness, because it is a dharma, so it is a dharma to be proved. Not having it is not having it. For example, water etc. do not exist independently of earth etc., which has been clearly pointed out. Therefore, since otherness has not been established, the example does not have the dharma to be proved.
