Furthermore, it is said that Brahmins claim to take away the sins of those who have committed them and establish a share of merit. Although this may be said, this reasoning is not reasonable. From one continuum to another, sins are not transferred; this should be held as such. Because they are not corporeal, like attachment, hatred, and delusion, they are not transferred. Material objects with substance are seen to transfer from one continuum to another, like a son. Since sin is not corporeal, just as another's attachment cannot make another attached, another's hatred cannot make another hateful, another's delusion cannot make another deluded, another's hunger and thirst do not harm another, and another's satisfaction does not make another satisfied, so too, the result of sins committed by another cannot be established by another. Moreover, at that time, taking merit should be done with inappropriate attention. Things that are in accordance with the mind, like pleasure and pain. Objects with form, such as gold and clothing, can be given and received, but merit and sin are not, because they are in accordance with the mind, just as pleasure and pain cannot be given and received. If pleasure and pain could be given and received, then all masters, when suffering, should give all their remaining suffering to their servants and take their happiness. Compassionate ones should also give their happiness to suffering beings and take their suffering, but this does not exist. Likewise, merit and non-merit do not exist for taking and giving. The Vinaya also says: Here, virtuous and non-virtuous, the deeds done by oneself, will not be wasted; therefore, abandon sin, like the son of a spear. Furthermore, jumping into fire, etc., going to the world of Brahma, etc., can be seen in the three evil paths mentioned, so it should be abandoned. Jumping into fire, jumping into cliffs, fasting, etc., can lead to the world of Brahma.

, and it is seen that it is not true to say that one will go to the worlds of the Great Powerful One, the Lord of Hosts, the All-pervading One, etc. These three are the only ones that should be abandoned. How so? Because it is not reasonable. Like offering to fire, etc., by Brahma, etc., one will not obtain the world, etc., because it harms life, as seen in the case of moths, etc. Whatever is offered to fire devoid of a virtuous mind, and sacrifices on cliffs, etc., are not the cause of obtaining the world of Brahma, etc., because they harm life. Just as moths and flies, bees, etc., are offered to fire, and Aeneas and monkeys, etc., jump into cliffs, and from a large ship in the ocean, people die, and on the road, all provisions are exhausted and travelers are threatened by hunger and lose their lives, these are not the cause of going to heaven. Furthermore, by abandoning food and drink, one should not want to obtain heaven, because it is the cause of hunger and thirst, as it is said in the scriptures, 'not eating food.' Not eating food and drink does not obtain heaven, because it is the cause of being tormented by hunger and thirst, just as not eating food due to anger or illness, or due to not obtaining it. Furthermore, not eating food, etc., will become merit, because it is abandonment, just like abandoning sin, if one says so, then because of abandoning truth, etc., this reason will become uncertain. Not eating food will become merit, because it is abandonment, just like returning from sin, saying so will also become doubtful, because of the reason of abandonment, just like abandoning truth and celibacy, will it become non-merit? Or because of the reason of abandonment, just like abandoning harm, etc., will abandoning food also become merit? Therefore, because of the reason of abandonment, this reason is uncertain. Furthermore, abandoning food will not become merit, because that action has no sin, just like the intention of doing good, abandoning intention. Abandoning such an action that causes sin when practiced is reasonable to become merit.
