Those who claim to have attained Nirvana in the visible Dharma, those who wear garlands of water-born flowers, those who wield pestles, those who grind stones, those who bathe correctly, those who see the Dharma correctly, those who are pure from birth, those who are pure by action, those who enter the water like mice, those who live in monasteries, those who regard earth, water, fire, wind, and space as having consciousness, and so on—all three hundred and sixty-three views are transmitted without interruption. Therefore, all are very brave in praising the scriptures proclaimed in their own vows and engage in debate. If this is the case, then all scriptures will become established, which is a fallacy. If all these are established, then what is the use of miserliness? There is no contradiction in this. However, if everything is established, then it will not be established. Those opponents who, having heard other scriptures, develop other ideas will argue, 'This is reasonable, this is not reasonable.' Therefore, if any word can be constantly endured by reason, that is scripture. For the time being, let us examine it, and then what it indicates. Even if it is true that it has been transmitted without interruption, if the teacher's own words are considered to be words that can be examined and endured by reason, then for the time being, one should examine how such a teacher has indicated such content with what kind of reason. Afterwards, one should also examine whether those indications, which are slightly accompanied by the meaning of the words, can be examined and endured. For example, some unwise people think that agate is a real jewel, but it only looks like a jewel because it cannot withstand burning and grinding, so it is shown to be agate.' If it is established in this way, then it itself is also scripture, and it is established, but conceptualization is not reason. Furthermore, like fine gold that can withstand burning and grinding and does not change, that is scripture.' If one says this, then what is the reason for this? For this, because it is its antidote, it is considered to be wisdom liberation. Because it is the antidote to disease, medicine liberates one from disease. Wisdom is liberation.

The word "is" is a view that is widely recognized by all schools of thought. The reason for saying this is that it is the antidote to ignorance, which is an argument. For example, just as medicine that can counteract disease frees people from disease. Furthermore: Actions cannot attain liberation, because they are actions, like working in the fields; because it is not wisdom, because it is something spoken; because it is a temporary thing. The actions of grain, trade, ghee, and marital relations cannot attain liberation, because they are actions, like the labor of plowing and so on. Furthermore: Because it has the faults of human language, if it is thought not to be valid, then, for the language of discerning gold and so on, this argument is uncertain. In the world, there are some people's words that cause doubt, for example, saying "there is fruit on this riverbank," out of a hundred people, some may have it, and some may not. There are also some people's words that do not cause doubt, because for the whole world, they are reliable, just like people who discern gold and so on. Therefore, it must be determined that this argument is uncertain, because it is a person. Is it that the words of a person who says "there is fruit" on the riverbank are like the words of an unreliable person? Or, like the words of a person who discerns gold and so on, is this word reliable? Like this, it is uncertain. If it is said that because a person is harmed by faults, therefore a person's words are false, I am not saying this, but because it is made. If it is said that the Vedas are not made here, therefore they are reliable, then it should be said: If because it is not made, it proves that the Vedas are reliable, then this argument is uncommon and also an unestablished meaning. The Vedas are not made, because there is no author. If asked why, because there is no example, therefore this argument is uncommon. For Buddhists, there is nothing that is not made.
