It is not impossible either. Why? If form itself does not exist, how can there be views of permanence and impermanence? Therefore, because its own nature is emptiness, even if you say all sorts of things, you are only fully explaining emptiness, so you are only accomplishing our own wishes. If it is said that because it is the only established tenet, it is extremely established in the Vaibhashika school, and therefore it is established as seeing only that suchness, then, because of clinging to these characteristics, it is not reasonable to see that suchness. Because characteristics arise from untruth, it is desired to recognize the essence as untrue. Those things like mind that arise untruly are annihilation because they are impermanent, while things like earth are considered permanent because they arise in conjunction with permanent atoms. Therefore, it is not good to regard both of these aspects as characteristics, as it is thought that it will ultimately become an extreme view. If it is said that even if this meaning is not to be expressed, it is called "general" only when it is related to the meaning of the thing called "general," but not when it becomes the nature of existence, etc., then it should be said: The meaning that is different from me should not be related to it, just as because there is a thought of existence, one wants to call it "general" on the collection of thoughts. Because it is related to a collection that is different from me, the thought "I have" will not arise, which is an argument. Because it is a true thought, it is a reason: whenever a true thought arises, one does not see a meaning different from it related to it, just as the thought called "general" arises in that great existence itself. Similarly, relations such as numbers, whether for myself or for others, the wise should recognize that it is not that kind of thought, according to reason. Anything that is combined with the number one will also say "I am one," but that thing itself is neither one nor many. Similarly, because it is combined with the correct thought, there will be cases called recognition, etc. Furthermore, other things such as earth are also expressed by words such as one because they are combined in the same way as numbers, but it itself is neither the nature of one nor the nature of many.

Everywhere, the wise should refute in this very way. How to refute? Because it is the same as number, it is not reasonable to have the thought of self and earth, etc., as one, because it is a thought. For example, just as the thought of one, etc., arises because the number itself is the same as the number. Furthermore, my thought and suffering, happiness, etc., are inseparable from qualities, because they are qualities, like numbers. Therefore, without qualities, there is no self. Thought and happiness, suffering and desire, hatred and effort, non-dharma and dharma, knowledge and karma, all these qualities of self are the subject of dharma. That they are ultimately inseparable from self is the dharma. Because they are qualities is the reason. Whatever is a quality is inseparable from self, like numbers. Even when liberation is attained, because it is still self, just as one cannot be liberated from the number one, one cannot be completely liberated from thought, etc., because the state of self being separated from qualities is not established. And someone says that when the mind abides in its own self, it is liberation, to that I say: Even if the object and nature are not different, what will become a self without self? From wanting to unite with self, memory and knowledge will universally arise. If the self has form, then it will also have direction. If the self with direction abides in its own mind, how can the self without direction abide in its own mind? When I unite my mind with the position of my own direction, then in the time of samsara, memory and knowledge are desired to arise, and in the time of liberation, non-conceptual wisdom will arise, this assertion is flawed. Because the directional parts are not different, the ascertainment of the unseen is also the same as before. The same refutation applies to this as well. Because the arising of the non-existent is prevented, its union is also not desired. The ascertainment of the unseen is the abandonment of non-dharma when one is definitely united with dharma. This is not reasonable for the self without directional parts. Even if dharma and self unite, do they unite with one direction, or...
