Therefore, it should also be examined. Consciousness does not rely on the permanent "self," because it possesses causes and conditions, like a pot. Any manifest consciousness that arises from the combination of sense faculties, objects, and mind should not, in reality, rely on a permanent "self," because it possesses common characteristics such as causes and conditions, like a pot and so on. Alternatively, consciousness should not be a quality of the "self," because it possesses arising and ceasing. Just as one does not accept form and so on as qualities of the "self." Consciousness should not be a quality of the "self," why? Because anything that possesses arising and ceasing is not seen as a quality of the "self," for example, form. Or, because it is an aggregation, therefore there is no "self," because this category is impermanent. Just as form was not previously existent, even so, it is heard that because it is close to the "self," consciousness is a quality of the "self." But that is not the "self," nor is it aggregated with the "self," this is a view. Why? Because it is impermanent, or because it did not exist previously when the sense faculties and objects combined. For example, form is not aggregated with the "self." Similarly, consciousness is not a quality of this either. One should thoroughly understand that, like this, suffering and so on are also not qualities of the "self." The arising of happiness is also not a quality of the "self," because it possesses arising and ceasing, for example, form. Happiness is not aggregated with the "self," because it is impermanent, or because it did not exist previously, for example, form. Similarly, suffering, desire, and hatred, etc., should also be negated. This is a concluding statement. Furthermore, mind is not considered permanent, because it can be expressed, like a pot. If it is said that consciousness and so on are impermanent, therefore they are not aggregated with the "self," but mind is permanent here, therefore it is aggregated with the "self," then, mind is also not permanent, because it can be expressed by language, like a pot and so on. If it is not permanent, how could it be aggregated with the "self"? This is something to be considered. Furthermore, this is not an action of the "self," because it is a thing, like happiness. Anything that is a thing itself is not an action of the "self," for example, happiness.

Even if mind is not self-born, and it is admitted that it is a combination, it cannot be established that it can see the meaning. Or, relying on something without a basis cannot be established, therefore, in order to eliminate the basis itself. Even if the existence of self has been prevented, it should still be observed here: because it is not born from dependence, the absence of self is like a flower in the sky. Although preventing self is the same as preventing Ishvara, it should still be prevented according to reason, and the so-called "I do not exist" is the proposition. What is the reason? Because the causes and conditions that can arise separately or collectively have not been fully grasped, it is not dependent origination. Here, whatever does not exist is not produced by grasping the causes and conditions separately or collectively, like a flower in the sky. Whatever exists is produced by grasping the causes and conditions separately or collectively, for example, just as mind arises from grasping the conditions such as form, appearance, space, attention, and roots. Or, I do not exist, because it is separated from the nature of being corruptible, experienceable, graspable, fabricated, and individually knowable, like the son of a barren woman. Furthermore, It should also be observed whether to admit that its generality exists. Just as the continuum of aggregates is regarded as one, thereby admitting that there is self in the conventional, I should also examine here the admission that the generality of self exists. This is neither pervasive nor permanent, because it is knowable like a pot. Because yogis should realize this with the eye of meditation, it is called knowable, and because it is knowable, it is like the generality of a pot. Therefore, this is neither pervasive nor permanent. If it is said that I exist in a pervasive way, because it pervades everything, it is like space, that is unreasonable, because the example itself is the same as what is to be established, and the meaning of the thing itself also needs to be established, so how can it establish other things? If space pervades everything, then in the infinitesimal dust, does space exist or not? Both of these statements are accompanied by the rope of bondage, if space
