Moreover, it is necessary to examine the element of earth here as well. Is this subsequent arising, like fragments of a broken vessel, something with distinctions and causes? Or is this subsequent arising something without function, like the qualities of a principal? This is indeed uncertain. This same method should be applied to the reasons of complete transformation and so forth. Furthermore, what is the meaning of asserting that "the principal exists"? Is it that the principal is the sole cause of all things such as the great one? Or is it that the principal is the cause of the great one, the great one is the cause of ego, ego is the cause of only that much, and so forth, each being the cause of each? In that case, if one cause precedes the others, then it contradicts the causes. How so? Because whatever exists here is seen as a different cause. For example, earth is the cause of a pot, and a pot is the cause of many fragments and so forth. Similarly, a sandalwood tree is the cause of a trunk, and a trunk is the cause of branches, so there is no self-nature formed from one cause preceding the others. Therefore, it is impossible for something to exist from one cause preceding the others, and by inference, non-existence is powerfully proven, thus proving something contrary to the self-nature of the subject. Similarly, from different causes, There is no example of wanting to arise. The principal is the cause of the great one, because it is subsequently produced, for example, like what? Since there is no permanently existing self-nature of similar things, the example is not established. If here, have I not mentioned the example of fragments of a broken vessel and so forth? Fragments of a broken vessel and so forth are impermanent, and the principal itself is a permanent dharma-possessor, so how are they similar? In order to prove how it is permanent, others have stated a valid cognition: When sandalwood becomes fragments, It should be recognized that there is no decay, Strength and shape and size and so forth, Exist closely, like itself. While the substance called sandalwood remains stable, when the differences of the dharma called fragments arise separately, the differences of the dharma called trunk do not appear.

When it becomes manifest as fragments, the sandalwood does not disappear, this is the subject (thesis). The reasons are that the power is close, the form is close, and the size is close. The nature of being close is closeness itself. It has not completely abandoned the nature of the same kind of cause. Among them, power being close means that even after sandalwood fragments, etc., are made, there is no difference in fragrance and taste for the needs of medicine, etc., so it is the ability to function in that way. Form being close refers to the form itself that is similar to white, etc. Size being close means that a large sandalwood tree has many fragments, and a small sandalwood tree also has few fragments. Whichever is close exists, and whichever will not disappear, just like the nature of sandalwood that has not been made into fragments. Therefore, if it is said that there are examples like me even on different causes, then it should be said that the nature of energy itself, if it exists, cannot establish an example as before. If there are also differences in the main energy, etc., even if there are reasons such as following along, because there are no other unclear things, it cannot follow along with what is established, because there is no example. Even if it exists in the manifest nature, the established tenet will be abandoned. If it is said that the manifest nature follows along with the main difference, then it contradicts the established tenet, because the scriptures say that the main thing is not manifest. If sandalwood and fragments are the same, then similarly, are the action and the agent themselves the same as the action and the agent? To this it must also be said that if action and agent are established as one, then it is only saying the same situation. If it is established that the same kind is one, then it is establishing what has already been established. If it is established that the same kind is one, then it is establishing what has already been established, for example, the sprouts, stems, stalks, leaves, ears, fruits, etc. that come from barley seeds are the same because there is no difference.
