Since it is not a person, it is unreasonable to call it liberation. Since I do not wish for self-nature to exist, if we are to examine it for the time being, how can there be bondage and liberation? When this is said, others, in order to establish its existence, cite the valid means: The lord exists because it follows the manifold, because it is completely transformed, because it is the nature of action and agent, because it has the ability, because it is the nature of the manifold. As it is said, just as there are many broken vessels, etc., similarly, it possesses these differences, therefore the difference has a cause. Strength, dust, and darkness, the three that are equal and indistinct, are the lord, which is the dharma. That it exists is its dharma, which is to be established. The dharma and the dharmic nature together are the subject. Following the manifold, etc., are the five reasons, named Abhidha. Among them, self-nature pervades all the manifold, which is following, because all the manifold is the nature of pleasure, pain, and delusion. Also, it is completely transformed; if it is an unchanging dharmic nature, it will also arise from self-nature as the great, and from the great it will transform into the nature of ego-grasping, from ego-grasping it will transform into that measure, from that measure it will transform into the senses, and from the senses it will transform into the nature of the great elements. The lord is the fundamental agent. The great and ego-grasping, etc., are both action and agent, because they are the nature of complete transformation. Also, ability is because self-nature is the dharmic nature of the born, so it is able to produce all the manifold, while the great, etc., have the ability to produce their respective actions. The nature of the manifold is the many differences of the great, ego-grasping, that measure, the senses, and the great elements. Just as from a seed universally arise sprouts, trunks, branches, twigs, leaves, and flowers, etc., and their agent is one seed. Similarly, the indistinct lord is one, while the differences are many, therefore it should be known that the agent is one.

The so-called "as it is said" and so on are words that indicate definite pervasiveness. Whatever follows, transforms, has the nature of action and agent, ability, and various natures, that is with cause. For example, like the fragments of a broken container. All the fragments of a broken pot follow the earth itself, just as the fragments of sandalwood also follow the fragrance, this is definite following. Transformation refers to the nature of the pot transforming into shards, like sandalwood transforming into fragments. The nature of action and agent is that the pot is the agent of the shards, and sandalwood is also the agent of the fragments. Ability also refers to the pot being able to produce shards, and sandalwood being able to manifest fragments. Again, the nature of various kinds refers to the emergence of various kinds of shards and sandalwood fragments, etc., from a single pot or sandalwood tree trunk, just like this, the following to be proven is definite. Similarly, "endowed with that distinction" and so on refer to following and so on, these are words of close association. Therefore, distinction is with cause, this is the conclusion. These five parts of the statement that can establish in this way are established by the Samkhya school. Refuting these statements is: All distinctions are with cause, if it is said to be established, it is already established, not established in all dharmas, this is an unestablished reason. If your thought is that the distinctions of great and so on are with cause, because they come from some cause, then this is establishing what is already established. Because we also believe that all things truly arise from cause and condition, things are not without cause. The reason of following and so on is also not established for Buddhists. If one nature is established, then what is in accordance with it will also be established. But we know that that nature is not established, because it is not clear, like rabbit horns and so on. What is in accordance with what and how? This is not established for others. Completely
