Therefore, one should refute the arising of existence in whatever appears to exist. If it is said that there is a time when non-existence arises, then there is this time of refutation, but because there is no nature to be refuted, the thought of non-existence will also be lost through the mind that is not true. Abiding in the realm of wisdom without deprivation, and in the extremely tranquil, the thought of saying 'there is not' does not arise, so even the mere expression of 'non-existence' is not in accordance with it, and it is not existent for the Madhyamika. Even at the time of the Sugata, only existence is refuted, and not the establishment of non-existence, so there is a very great difference, like a mustard seed and Mount Sumeru. As it is said: 'This is the negation of existence, not the grasping of non-existence, by saying it is not blue, does one ever say it is white?' Thus, because both views have abandoned all elaboration, they become suffering for the wise who desire the bliss of peace. How is it? If one acts in form and formlessness, and in the supramundane virtue and non-virtue and the undeclared, whatever things of the nature of extreme attainment are worthy of being established as names, if they are truly existent here in their own nature, then the effort to generate and not generate virtue and non-virtue will be meaningless, just like a pot and cloth that exist because they are truly existent. Thus, even the blissful will not be diminished from the distinction of bliss, and the suffering will not be diminished from suffering, just as the differences of birth, age, measure, and conduct are like a picture drawn on a wall, so too will they follow sentient beings. However, if it is the nature of non-existence, then the effort to generate and not generate the virtue and non-virtue of the three realms and the supramundane will also be meaningless. Because there are no sentient beings, just as how to establish the sharpness of a rabbit's horn, so too will there be the fault of the cessation of names.
