As you have stated, the practice of these is the same for all in that it eliminates afflictions. However, the distinction is that only the Bhagavan can eliminate the obscurations to knowledge through the Mahayana's non-attachment. Therefore, the truths and so forth taught in the Vinaya and other texts are all taught in the Mahayana, so the Sutras and the Mahayana are mutually inclusive. In fact, the Mahayana is included within the Sutras and so forth, thus demonstrating that the arguments of others are not established. Furthermore, even if some of the noble truths and so forth here are in accordance with the Mahayana, many treatises of different schools contradict what we have previously established. To this, it must be said that you, whose mind is tainted by the habitual tendencies of being attached to what is inverted, speak without having truly grasped the meaning of the Mahayana treatises, and to that I must respond. The Mahayana is indeed spoken by the Buddha, because it does not contradict the Dharma seal, and it also accords with the Sutras of the noble truths, is seen to correctly subdue afflictions, and does not contradict the nature of dependent origination, so all of that proves that the Mahayana is spoken by the Buddha. Alternatively, each of the eighteen schools follows their own Sutras and so forth, but there are great contradictions between them. Even if the Mahayana, due to its profound and vast nature for the benefit of others, does not accord with some of the collections of the Hearers' Sutras and so forth, it does accord with the Mahayana Sutras, also appears in the seven hundred training precepts of the Bodhisattvas, and does not contradict the Dharma nature that teaches emptiness. Therefore, it does not contradict the Dharma seal. Therefore, the Mahayana is spoken by the Buddha, because the root compilers are Samantabhadra, Manjushri, Vajrapani, Maitreya, and so forth. Our root compilers are not Hearers, because the Mahayana scriptures are not their domain.
