That is like a candy given by a mother. As it is said, that which realizes suchness through meditation that possesses both scriptural authority and reasoning is worthy of being called a Buddha, because it possesses unerring wisdom. Merely following scriptural authority that contradicts reasoning to establish suchness, because it cannot withstand scrutiny, is like a candy given by a mother to those who possess dull minds. Some women, in order to deceive young children until the time for taking medicine has passed, smear pebbles with syrup, saying, "This is candy, eat it!" and then give it to them. The child thinks, "This mother will never deceive me," and then bites down hard and begins to chew, and the teeth will also break. Similarly, some people do not practice like taking the unerring medicine indicated by the king of medicine, but instead, without truly understanding the teachings of the Sugata that have expression and intention, they grasp the literal meaning of "The Muni taught in this way," and firmly cling to it. Those people, like children eating candy given by their mothers, are to be ridiculed by the wise. Therefore, one should not merely follow scriptural authority, but should examine it with reasoning. That reasoning is as follows: The noble Shravakas are those who have direct realization of seeing only the appearance of phenomena, while the Pratyekabuddhas are those who fully know dependent origination. Those are because they have meditated on the entities of the path as it is taught. And the Bhagavan attained enlightenment by entering into the samadhi of non-apprehension. Moreover, it is impossible until the clinging to entities is abandoned from the root. Therefore, by meditating on non-apprehension, it becomes the cause of perfect and complete enlightenment, and is a particularly superior path, not a temporary one. "The Great Vehicle is not the word of the Buddha," this statement should also be determined. To lead by a definitive arising, thereby realizing the meaning, that is determination. What is that? Because it does not contradict the scriptural authority that follows reasoning, therefore the Great Vehicle is spoken by the Buddha. That which contradicts inference,

It is not spoken by the Buddha, like the view of annihilation. The Mahayana is not harmed by reason, reason will be explained below. Therefore, the Mahayana is only spoken by the Buddha, like the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle. Furthermore, this path previously shown cannot attain Buddhahood, in order to realize the aspects of suffering, like the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle. Meditating without seeing, etc., is called the remainder of the words. The aspects of suffering, etc., are the aspects of suffering, namely impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, which are called the four aspects of suffering. Similarly, the aspects of origin, cessation, and path should also be realized separately as explained in the sutras. Alternatively, suffering, origin, cessation, and path, as well as what should be fully known, what should be abandoned, what should be manifested, and what should be cultivated, as well as full knowledge, abandonment, manifestation, and cultivation, are said to be the realization of twelve aspects, like the path of the Pratyekabuddha. The Blessed One thought that the aspects of suffering, etc., are realized as equality without clinging. Harm by inference also occurs to other schools. For example, an unestablished example is difficult to reverse once entered. Those who say that these paths themselves can exhaust the obscurations to knowledge are also saying that it is impossible to abandon the obscurations to knowledge without special meditation. The Blessed One also did not exhaust the obscurations to knowledge by this path, but abandoned them through other special meditations. If this path had the power to eliminate the obscurations to knowledge, then the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas should also have exhausted the two obscurations and abandoned them together with the connection of habitual tendencies, but such a situation is impossible. Therefore, it is only through the special meditation of the path taught in the Mahayana that the obscurations to knowledge are thoroughly abandoned. Furthermore, knowing that there is no birth and no cessation is not the ultimate truth of the true meaning.
