What sphere of activity would there be? The mind is robbed by distinctions, And applies words to it. Since it does not fall into factions, Here, too, one should investigate in this way. With a mind obscured by attachment to factions, How can one realize the truth? When it is blocked by the existence of a self, The cause of wandering is also the same. Therefore, seeing that is liberation, One should thoroughly examine what is untrue. Sentient beings all have a view of the perishable aggregate, They are born together and are very attached. Because it is the root of all disturbing emotions, Therefore, you should greatly increase it. Because of attachment to the view of the perishable aggregate, The grasping of self and the grasping of what belongs to self, From what will the cycle of existence arise, That is said to be liberation. Like being drunk and then drunk again, If one becomes peaceful with that view, Like having a disease that is very difficult to digest, What benefit is there from eating delicious food? The Vedic speakers assert that the self Exists in two aspects: What is called the body is the bound self, And the liberated self dwells in the ultimate. Grasping as supreme the object of the self, The thought of self is not true as it is. Because of grasping this as the supreme self, Like having the thought of self in the body. Even if there is a conventionally established self, What use is your self? If you say that there is mind in objects such as form and sound, That is not reasonable. In objects such as form, minds Arise even without an agent self. Because it is a birth dependent on conditions, Like fire arising from a fire crystal. Whatever sound is the nature of letters, It is asserted that its agent is not a self. Because it is to be heard and is the nature of sound, For example, like the sound emitted by a mountain valley. This also refutes other activities of the body, Coming and going, and the various actions, The movement of hands and feet, And all other qualities. From knowing everything in general, From knowing everything, memory is recollection, From knowing each separately and well, From wisdom, experience is feeling. If you say that knowing and so forth are agents, Is it establishing it as an action? Or is it an agent other than that? Like a cutter, it is not reasonable. The agent has conditions, Why does the action not have them? Therefore, it is either unproven or uncertain, It becomes an uncertain cause. Knowing and so forth are agents, Because they are expressed by the word "agent," Like Devadatta cutting, Thus, it is seen as an agent. Conditioned things.

It is the very nature of being devoid of action. Therefore, this can be called the agent, because like a lamp, it is what illuminates things. The single lord spoken of by the Vaisheshikas is not the agent, because one (lord) cannot make a pot. Therefore, agents such as lamps should not be considered as imputed. The mind controlled by desire and the like, clinging to objects such as form, is robbed by factors contrary to liberation, and is bound in the prison of samsara. The collection of things such as hands, together with consciousness, is called sentient beings. Mental factors such as generosity, there are terms such as giver and the like. Because the arising of wisdom causes the cessation of ignorance and the like, one is liberated from the bonds of attachment and the like, therefore it is called liberation. For the self that is like space, all these are difficult to express. If there is attachment to the self, it would be like wanting flowers in the sky. Because if the self is considered to be by nature, to be of the nature of knowing, then because it depends on action and the like, it cannot be one. Because there are knowable objects such as the self, knowing does not cease, just as a lamp that has completed its task, can also arise from its cause. As long as knowing arises in the mind, seeds and the like will change, just as as long as sound exists, echoes will arise. Without an agent, how can one know samsara? Because it is not all-pervasive, how can one be bound and liberated from it? Nor can one be liberated from suffering, because liberation and suffering are said to be one. Because it is not other than the self, just like fire and heat. Degraded and unarisen wisdom, without an agent, how can it exist? What is used to cut, how is it possible without an axe? When it is said that fire is burning, it is not that fire is performing the action of burning. Similarly, when it is said that wisdom is knowing, it is not that knowing is the subject of knowing. This cannot be established like a potter, because it does not exist in its nature. Nor should it be established like desire, because without something to burn, there is no fire. If you do not know the agent and the enjoyer, how do you know? For the self that is like space and without conceptualization, why speculate based solely on scriptures? Neither ignorance nor the entity of knowing, this will become non-existent. The non-existent will not become the self.
