Having fully known, abandoned, directly realized, and cultivated the four truths, one is called a Buddha because of understanding the four noble truths. As the Blessed One said: 'What should be fully known is fully known, what should be abandoned is abandoned, what should be directly realized is directly realized, what should be cultivated is cultivated, therefore, the patient one is called Buddha.' Thus it is said. Here it is said: Some of what you say is true, namely, that it liberates from the suffering of samsara, abandons the obscurations of afflictions, and realizes the selflessness of the person. However, the obscuration of knowledge cannot be abandoned, because the Prajnaparamita is free from conceptualization. Therefore, it is a guiding meaning. As the Blessed One said: 'Wisdom without skillful means, and the teachings that are taught, the great hero speaks to the Shravakas, in order to guide them.' Thus it is said. What you say, that the fruit to be attained, Nirvana, and another name, Buddha, is also attained through this path, is also not true, and not ultimate. It is only a temporary place of guidance, a guiding meaning. As it is said: In the Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: 'Knowing suffering, one does not completely pass beyond suffering, nor does one pass beyond suffering. Knowing the origin, one does not completely pass beyond Nirvana, nor does one pass beyond the origin. Knowing cessation, one does not completely pass beyond Nirvana, nor does one pass beyond cessation. Knowing the path, one does not completely pass beyond Nirvana, nor does one pass beyond the path. Thus, whatever is the equality of these four noble truths, I have clearly shown, and whatever is equality, that is Nirvana.' And so on. In the Sutra on Entering the Realm of All Buddhas, it also says: 'Manjushri, whatever dharma, whether it is to be fully known, abandoned, cultivated, or directly realized, there is none anywhere.' Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Nirvana that you speak of is also contradictory. For example, the Vaibhashikas say: 'Nirvana is existent and permanent.'

They say that it exists and is substantial. The Sutra Pitaka and the Red-robed Sects say this: Nirvana is not something that exists, just like a lamp that has gone out. His mind is completely liberated. They say this, believing that Nirvana is like a fire going out. The Sthavira Nikaya says this: The substance of Nirvana does not exist, because there is no body or senses. Nor is it non-existent, because it possesses constant bliss. They say this. Thus, the Bhagavan relies on the provisional meaning of the scriptures to make various speculations, which are methods to deceive children. Considering this meaning, the noble Nagarjuna said: This world, devoid of self and so on, is the aggregates, sources, and elements. The Tathagata spoke in this way, wishing to benefit the Shravakas. Again, in order to reverse the clinging to self, the aggregates, sources, and elements were taught. Abiding in mere mind, it is also destroyed by great kalpas. Such reasoning, and the teaching that form and so on, and things and so on, exist slightly, is for those who are possessed by the demon of clinging to reality, and are frightened by the profound truth. It should be understood that this is provisional meaning through this kind of reasoning. Here, there are the four: grammar, logic, medicine, and crafts, and the teachings of the great Madhyamaka in the presence of the noble Nagarjuna, who has reached the other shore of learning about the tenets of self and others like an ocean, so one should examine and determine the previously established texts and everything else. The chapter on the wisdom of the authentic conventional truth of provisional meaning is complete. Although one has the Mahayana lineage, yet is ignorant and has obscurations, for the sake of deceiving children with middling intelligence, the teaching of mere mind is to negate the agent and the enjoyer. The means of vastness without wisdom, the All-Knowing One spoke of the provisional meaning. In the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: One's own mind is the realm of appearance, people appear as external objects, external objects do not exist, therefore there is no meaning either. And so on, many things were said. Chapter on Transcendence.
