Indeed. There is no doubt that it exists. Such as seeing, etc. Because seeing, etc., are established as what is taken without depending on the taker. This is how it is understood. If one of these arises without the other, for example, these dharmas that are taken, such as seeing, etc., belong to the taker, Devadatta. And this taker, Devadatta, also belongs to these that are taken. If such a sequence is impossible, then that sequence must be considered inevitable. Why? For example: What illuminates what? What illuminates what? Because of this and so on. What, means any of the seeing, etc. What, means the seer and the hearer, etc. Illuminates, means manifests. What, means the seer and the hearer, etc. What, means any of the seeing, etc. Illuminates, means manifests, the seeing, etc., of this seer and hearer, etc., is this. Thus, because they depend on each other, what is taken and the taker are established nominally, but not ultimately. If it is said that it is dependent, but because the dependence is certain, it is ultimately true. Then, the thing that is relied upon for the establishment of what is taken, there is not even a little that is already established as the taker without depending on what is taken. And what is relied upon for the establishment of the taker, there is also no nature of what is taken that is already established without depending on the taker. If that is not there, then what is taken, which becomes what is taken by relying on what, will never become what is taken by relying on that, and is not what is taken. The taker, who becomes the taker by relying on what, will never become the taker by relying on that, and is not the taker, so the certainty of dependence is also difficult to establish. If what does not exist, where does what exist? If what does not exist, where does what exist? If there is no what is taken, then where does any taker exist? Taker what

If there is no taker, how can there be something to be taken? Because of this, the fault in the argument has not disappeared. Furthermore, the Sthavira school would refute: Before all of your views and so on, what exists? After analyzing in this way, what is the use of criticizing the meaning of the words fabricated by one's own conceptualization? We say: Before all views and so on, nothing exists. So, what is it like? It exists before each view and so on, other views and so on, manifest at other times. From seeing, hearing, thinking, feeling, body, and sensations, other than seeing, hearing, smelling, etc., at other times it will manifest, this is the seer, this is the hearer, this is the smeller, and so on. Therefore, like this, the existence before seeing or hearing etc. depends on the object to be taken different from it, because the taker is established, so there is no non-establishment of the meaning of the argument. Here it says: If all views and so on do not exist before, then how can each view and so on exist before? Because if it is thought to exist before individual things such as seeing or hearing, then the object to be taken that does not depend on it will not be established, and the taker that does not depend on it will also not be established as the taker. Therefore, just like before, from inference, the existence of the taker before each object to be taken is also extremely unestablished. Furthermore, also, for those who say that there is a taker here, is it admitted that the only seer is the hearer and the feeler, or is it admitted that it is other? To this, if before each, the seer is the hearer, and the feeler is also the same, then just as the non-Buddhists say, the root of the body and senses of that seer, such as earth, etc., are of the nature of increasing and decreasing, if it is thought like that, then it is not famous in that way either, so that is unreasonable.

If before each one, the seer is the same as the hearer, and the feeler is also the same. Even if the only one exists as a substance, it cannot last longer than a moment. Even in name, it is impossible to be the seer, the hearer, and the feeler, because the only one is unreasonable, how could it exist before each one? Therefore, that is unreasonable, so it is said. What is it? That is the same, meaning that a fault arises because of the fault of the commitment. Ultimately, the hearer is not not other than the seer, because he is the hearer, for example, like a hearer of a different kind. By inferring that the hearer, etc., is other, thereby revealing that it is not other, therefore the commitment has the fault of excluding the self-nature of the subject. The seer also does not rely on the eye because he is to perceive form, because he is not other than the hearer, for example, like the hearer. By inferring that the seer is not other than the hearer, in order to perceive form, excluding the very fact that he does not rely on the eye, therefore the commitment has the fault of excluding the difference of the subject. Regarding the statement "That is unreasonable," others say this: If that seeing, etc., exists before each one, then the seer is also that same one, the hearer is also that same one, and the feeler is also that same one, which is unreasonable. Why? Because just as a person goes out of different windows, it will lead to the self going to other faculties, because the self does not want to go to any other faculties, they say. Some say: That should not become a fault of inference, because the function of the eye, etc., and the mind that arises from that, perceiving form, etc., all converge in the direction of going to all selves, therefore it can also be established that the seer, etc., does not go to other faculties, and if there is the entry of the ear, etc., appearing to sounds, etc., then in the appearance of the ear, etc., there is an agent and there is an image appearing as conscious, thereby helping, and changing into the seer and the hearer themselves.
